Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone and you're enjoying the end of another workweek (for most). Today is close to the end of Black History month, or at least the last day I’ll share a quote with you, on this subject, for a while. I'm grateful for this month because I truly get to learn more about the people who came before me, and dedicate some special time to them. Hopefully I will become an important part of history, and my children, and their children, will be celebrating me long after I leave this earth. I'm sure most people strive to leave a legacy, and make a difference, if only to a few people. If you don't feel that way, then you should think about a positive way to create your own legacy. I'm not speaking about finding a cure for cancer, or coming up with some awesome invention, but just being known as a loving, caring, and giving person, because that's who you are in Christ Jesus. Enjoy this last quote: "We should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race hate, and religious prejudice." (~Carter Woodson) Have a wonderful weekend, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about self-examination. How often do you conduct self-examinations? Is it daily, monthly, or right around the New Year, when you're preparing your New Year's Resolution? I'm sure you remember your major joys and pains, whether physically, mentally, or spiritually. In no doubt could you keep up with the new fashion, and latest trends of super stars. You may post your opinions concerning certain things on Facebook or Twitter, about what's in the News, or whoever's in the spotlight. We judge and condemn people all the time, especially "Christians". I think the greatest thing we fail at today is examining ourselves. Most of us know the bible story regarding the woman who was about to be stoned to death, by her people, because she was caught committing adultery (John 8). They brought her to Jesus and asked what He thought about this, and it's written: This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. (John 8:6-8) This passage of scripture is so widely referenced because Jesus is explaining to us exactly how we should think in life. Before we judge anyone for the wrong they've done, we must first examine ourselves. Nobody knows exactly what Jesus wrote on the ground, but I bet is was something like self-examination, or forgiveness. I shared a story with a friend the other day regarding my time in Hawaii. Long story short, the person I was renting from suddenly asked us to leave her house in less than a week, with no apparent explanation. When asked why, she literally said, it doesn't matter why I just want you to go. I was so shocked, angry, and upset with her, I didn't know what to do. Thanks to God, this happened about one week before I was discussing leaving the Island, and I was blessed with another place to stay, until I found a flight back to the mainland. The last thing I remember this woman saying to me was, "you are not a victim". Those words sunk deep in my Spirit, because she was right! I won’t ever forget that. I think those words hit me so hard because I was in fact living my life as a victim. I had this "why me" mentality, when in truth everything that happened in my life was in direct result of something I'd done. I had to quickly turn my attitude from "why me" to "why not me". Now, whenever something goes wrong in my life, or before I make a big decision, I try to immediately examine my past actions, and ask the hard question, "why is this happening this way?" or “how do I want this to happen?” In life we will encounter hurts and pains that are out of our control, like the death of a loved one, or maybe a freak accident, but even those things have purpose, and are working together for our good. Our scriptures start out with a verse from the book of Lamentations, which according to the Women’s Devotional Bible (NIV) is "the book that consists solely of laments". The word lament is defined: an expression of grief or sorrow. Throughout this book, the author examines everything, attempting to come up with a reason for all the strife that's going on in their nation. It's written: Why should any living man complain when punished for his sins? Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD. Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven...(Lam. 3:39-40 NIV) Jeremiah had the answers to life right here. God requires us to confess of our sins, so we could take ownership for them. We're also expected to repent, to show Him that we're sincere, when asking for forgiveness. To keep our relationship strong and growing with God, we must make a commitment to examining ourselves daily. Thankfully, we have the Saving grace of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit to help us live righteously. The only thing we have to do is humble ourselves, and talk to God. When we have Jesus in our heart, we can ask for anything in His Name, with faith, and it will be granted, including forgiveness. If He isn't in your heart then your examination need to start there. If you need someone to pray with, please let me know. My favorite verse today is: Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. (Psalms 51:6)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone, and you're enjoying another beautifully sunny Friday eve. I thank you for your prayers and support, I know sometimes I ramble but I love to write, and it's therapeutic to share my thoughts with you. I appreciate the time you take to read them, and your continued prayers. If you have any concerns or questions, or just need a prayer, please let me know, because we are in fellowship together. Today's Black History month quote is: "I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear." (~Rosa Parks) Enjoy the rest of the evening, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about the attacks of "The Enemy". It's said that the enemy was an Angel in Heaven, and the director of music. He’s now known as a Fallen Angel, because he wanted to be more powerful than God. (Isa. 14:12) Lucifer was his name when he was still an Angel, but after he was cast out, he was referred to as Satan, the Devil, the Enemy, etc. He’s the reason for the Spiritual warfare we fight everyday. He first introduced sin to the world, as the serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden (Gen. 3:1), and he still reigns on earth today. He has a legion of demons working for him non-stop, tempting us to stray from the will of God. He's powerful, crafty, and smart. He knows God very well, because He used to be one of His top ranking Angels. He knows every word in the Bible and will use it to his advantage. For example, Jesus said: “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly." (Luke 21:34) He’s warning us to always be prepared for His return, and to avoid being drunk, wild, or fearful, but focused on Him. However, the devil would say something to us like, "It's okay to drink as much as you want, because even Jesus turned water in to wine at a wedding" (John 2:1-12), or he'll constantly try to get us to worry, and feed us that line "Life is short party and have fun". He twists the Word of God to manipulate us into thinking, doing, and saying what he wants. This is why it's so important to study the Word and meditate on it daily, and stay in constant connection with the Holy Spirit through prayer. A great rule of thumb for a Christian is, "If it doesn't feel right, then it probably isn't". The enemy loves to play mind games with us, and so Jesus warns us: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves". (Matt. 10:16) When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus used the Word of God to defeat him, and like Jesus we can only defeat him with God’s help. The Devil will never completely win the battle, but God does allow us to be tempted for certain reasons, and we learn that in the book of Job. We're constantly being tested because God needs us to be on a certain “faith level”, before we're promoted to a greater "life level". How could we expect Him to bless us with a lot if we cannot handle the little we have? The Bible teaches us that enemy attacks will happen, especially when he thinks we're in the midst of a breakthrough with God. He'll send different demons to trip us up, by any means necessary. He’ll persuade us using a loved one, music, television, food, alcohol, or anything we could think of. The enemy has used all of us at some time in our life. He's constantly working on our weaknesses, until we become strong enough to endure. He wants our life to be a living hell because he knows that God wants us to experience peace, joy, and happiness every day. It’s necessary for us to study our enemy, because at times of war, each side gains as much intelligence on their enemy as possible. Before attacking, they need to know their weak spots, and how to defend against their counterattacks. The Word of God, prayer, and love are the only ways to fight evil. Through Jesus we have the strength to withstand anything the devil will throw at us, but we must put on the Amour of God (Eph 6:11), and most importantly REPENT [or turn away] from sin. Always remember this: You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4) The first step to defeating Satan is joining the army of the Lord through Salvation. Jesus is the only way to God, so ask Him to come into your heart as your Savior, and allow Him to strengthen you. My favorite verses today are: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone and you're enjoying this beautiful Hump Day. I'm doing well, looking forward to another beautiful weekend, although we're expecting more snow tonight and tomorrow. I think we've learned to adjust to the snow, but are eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring. This morning I awoke to the sound of birds singing, which was a welcomed sound, after a quiet winter. I ask for your continued prayers for my Grandmother, she's gradually to gaining her strength back. Also, don't forget the people of Haiti, there are still a lot of orphans there, so pray that these precious children find good homes. Today the Gonzaga Eagles won against Bishop McNamara at home, it was a good game. Two more games until the end of the season, so hopefully we can get through them this week despite the snow. The Black History month quote of the day is: "Freedom is never given; it is won." (~A. Philip Randolph) Have a wonderful day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about asking God for any and everything. The blood of Jesus not only washes our sins, and offers salvation, but it also establishes a close relationship between man and God. Anyone who asks for Salvation through Jesus Christ becomes one with our Father in Heaven. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and considers us closer than a brother. Even before we had the blood of Jesus, God expressed His undying love for us. Think about how He gave the people of Israel manna and quail, when they asked for mercy, after having suffered through a terrible famine (Exo.16). Let's not forget one of my all time favorite verses: Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him. (Isa. 30:18) I share this verse every chance I get because it was one of those "Ahh Ha" verses for me. When I first read this, it warmed my heart to realize that God's main concern is the wellbeing of His children, and He is in fact waiting to hear from us at any moment. Jesus warned us not to worry about anything, and to trust in the Lord to take care of our every need in the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 6:25-34). Knowing all of this, we still sometimes fail to trust Him with everything. We can’t hide anything from God, and He knows what we need before we need it, but He waits on us to ask. Asking shows that we love Him enough to put all of our faith and trust in Him. We’re in a “relationship” with God, and as we all know relationships takes work, and requires lots of communication. Yes He is Holy, and the all powerful Creator of the universe, but He also cares for us individually. He wants us to share our joys and pains with Him. We must learn His ways, and strengthen our relationship with our Holy Spirit, so we can know exactly what we should pray for, and when. He’ll answer every prayer, and it may not always be exactly what we asked for, but He’ll give us exactly what we need. Jesus said: For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matt. 7:8-11) Prayer is simply a conversation between us and God. We can speak to Him as if we’re speaking to our best friend. Consult with your Holy Spirit, because He’s here to help us along the way. Ask God for wisdom to accurately follow His will, and always be open and honest with Him. Most importantly, ask in Jesus’ Name, because all things come through Him. Have Faith in what you’re asking for as well. If you don’t believe He’ll bless you with what you’ve asked for then He either won’t, or you knew it wasn’t the right thing at the right time. First ask Him for is Salvation, and after you’ve don’t that start to build that close bond with Him, and include communication. If you never ask, then you definitely won’t receive. My Favorite verse today is: Ye shall ask in my name; and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me. Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:26-27,24)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

I pray everything is going well with your Lent vows, and you're making it through the wilderness. Bear in mind that just as Jesus was tempted you'll be tempted, greater than ever before, so continue to keep your focus on the Lord. You're not of this world, so know that through Him, you have the strength to move mountains. Now is a good time to read the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Reading these books of the bible, will give you a new outlook on Christianity, as well as bring you closer to Jesus. I challenge you to read each book before Easter, or at least one, I’m starting with Luke, but you can choose any one you’d like. This is the last week of Black History Month, have you been enlightened a bit so far? Here's today's quote, "Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated." (~Coretta Scott King) Enjoy the rest of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about the Blood of Jesus. I've previously written about the importance of blood in the body, and why Jesus’ shed blood is symbol of pure water used to cleanse sin. According to iwebb.carterbloodcare.org: Blood carries gases, nutrients and waste products throughout your body. Blood also fights infections, heals wounds and performs many other vital functions. There is no substitute for blood. It cannot be made or manufactured. The only source of providing blood to patients who need it is for caring individuals to give it. We have several organs in our body that we just cannot live without, but blood is the most vital part, because it's responsible for the cleansing process. The body generates waste automatically, so it's in need of a cleanser to keep everything functioning correctly. We're often called "the Body of Christ, because we function similarly too the human body. God created us to work together as a unit, yet we each have a unique function. Sin is inevitable for man, so we need that one element that's meant to keep us alive, clean, and functioning properly. Jesus is that element that was created for the sole purpose of Salvation of the human race. Sin brings death to the Soul, but He came to give life, and He's the one thing that we cannot "live" without. Before Jesus’ death, He had one last supper with His Disciples, and He explained to them what to do to remember, or give tribute to Him. Most Christian Churches practice a Holy Communion ceremony, some every service, some weekly, and others monthly. No matter how often you practice it, do it in remembrance of Christ's shed blood, that's meant to cleanse our soul from all unrighteousness. Paul wrote this to the church: For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. (1 Cor. 11:23-32) I know this seems like a lot of information all at once, but if you've never taken Holy Communion before, then now you know how necessary it is. Jesus' Blood purifies the mind, body, and soul, to give us Eternal life in Heaven, and an abundant life on earth, full of love, peace, joy, and happiness, no matter our circumstance or situation. He wanted us to physically have something to hold on to, to remind us of His unconditional love, and the great sacrifice that was made for us. It also makes us responsible to truly confront our sin, and make a vow to change our ways. If you don't know whom Christ is, or is bogged down by the burden of sin, examine your heart right now. Confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, and repent. The last steps of Salvation are to ask Jesus to come into your heat as Lord and Savoir, and eventually be baptized by water to commemorate this awesome covenant you've made with God. Allow Him to lead the way, follow with a clean heart, and watch the magic happen all the days of your life. My favorite verse today is: Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:22)

Daily Devotional Day & Night Post Number 200!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I'm very blessed to have made it through the week in good health and Spirits, God is good! I'm learning how to be more grateful for my blessings, because a lot of things we think are burdens are truly blessings. If you have a home to sleep in and food to eat you're blessed, because there are far too many people in this Country, and others, who aren't that fortunate. Let's continue to keep the people in Haiti in your hearts and prayers, because they're still suffering. Just because the media has turned its cameras back to Tiger Woods, doesn't mean that their struggle has ended. Although, Tiger needs our prayers too; when I think of him, and all of the ridicule and pressure he has to endure, I think: "he who is without sin, throw the first stone" (John 8:7). His issues are between him, God, his wife, and children, and it's none of our concern. At the same time, it's written, "To whom much is given, much is required" (Luke 12:48), so touché. I want all of you to enjoy your weekend, let's pray that we don't get any more snow for the remainder of the winter. Be blessed family!

Today’s scriptures are about asking for, and receiving the Wisdom of God. Okay, let’s start by taking inventory...1) we understand that God is the creator of all things. 2) He's the Alpha and the Omega; the ONE true God. 3) He's ever present, in all places, and knows all things. 4) He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die for the sins of all mankind. 5) He's a loving God, who's slow to anger and quick to forgive. 6) He offers Salvation from the penalties of sin to anyone who asks in the Name of Jesus. 7) He answers every prayer of the Righteous, and all that's in His WILL is given. These seven statements simply scratch the surface of who our Heavenly Father is. He is in fact larger than life, but He knows each of us on a personal level. God’s so close to us that He knows our every thought before we think it. Now the question is how close are you to Him? Jesus gave us the ultimate Laws, “Love God with all of your heart and soul, and Love your neighbor as you love yourself” (Matt 22:37-40). God will always love us, but He’s given us somewhat of a choice to Love Him in return. The only way to adequately love God is to Seek Ye First the Kingdom. Go to Him with a sincere and loving heart and ask for His help, and thankfully we’re blessed with His Holy Spirit to help us along the way. It’s written: The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. (Prov. 15:14) Let’s look at the life of King Solomon, the son of King David. God had made a promise to David that his descendent would inherit the Kingdom. King Solomon was a righteous man of God, but He didn’t know how to be a King, or how he was supposed to serve God, so he did the only logical thing, and asked. Solomon went to Gibeon, known as the “Great High Place” (or Temple), and gave his burnt offering. That night God came to him in a dream and said: “Ask! What shall I give you?”(1 King 3:4) Solomon went on to acknowledge the fact that he was chosen because of his father, but what’s even more fascinating is what he asked next. It’s written: Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. (1 King 3:7-12) Solomon went on to be the wisest man of all time, just because he knew what, when, and how to ask. Jesus gives us full access to ask God for anything, anytime, or anywhere, and wisdom is something we need to be a positive asset to the Kingdom of God, so He will surely give it when sought. If you want a change in your life, but isn’t sure how to do it, then you need wisdom. Go to God with humility, just as Solomon did, and ask, seek, and knock, in the Name of Jesus. Remember, Jesus is the only way, so if you don’t know Him, please pray and seek Him out. If you need a prayer partner, never hesitate to contact me. My favorite verse today is: If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

How was your first day of Lent? I know some people failed, and some persevered, but it's just day two, so dust yourself off and continue on the journey to grow closer to the Lord. Here's something that was placed on my heart that I wanted to share with you: “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."(Matt 6:16-18) The Spirit reminded me that whatever commitment I make to God is between me and Him, that's what makes it so special. The Black History Month quote of the day is: "The past is a ghost, the future a dream. All we ever have is now." (~Bill Cosby) Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about hope in the Lord in times of trouble. It wasn't until I grew in my Faith walk did I start to notice certain things around me. When we're growing up in the world and learning new things, we get accustomed to its ways. Depending upon the way we're raised, we either learn to become immune to the evil ways of the world, or we rise above it. However, because we’re created with an inquisitive nature, we're going to test the waters, and experience several difficulties. Overall, the world is filled with a lot of evil and wicked things, and has been that way from the beginning of time. Take the story of the brothers Cain and Abel; one killed the other because of jealousy (Gen. 4). Then we also know of the Israelites who were freed from slavery, and lead to the Promised Land, by Moses. This nation of people fell into so much evil that they wondered in the wilderness for forty years, until they changed their ways. They were doing all types of ungodly acts, but God finally decided had mercy on them, and let them into the land promise to their people. Close to the end of the Israelites forty year journey, Moses wrote a song for this new generation, before his death. It was partly about the importance of praising God for the things of the past, to allow them to learn from the ways of their parents. He went on to remind them of the evil done, and the reasons they had to suffer so much. Although these people lost their way, and openly and intently disobeyed God, He still stayed with them, and continued to appoint great leaders like Moses and Joshua to get them back on the right path. After Moses recited this song to the people he left them with this: "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." (Deut 32:46-47 NIV) Everything happens for a reason, so we that are living in the year 2010 can take from this message great and wonderful things. We also learn from many who've come after Moses and the Israelites, but the most important thing we learn is that we're all vulnerable to evil, violence, sin, and failures, no man is above it. As long as we're in the flesh, wickedness will affect us in some type of way, yet we're still expect to maintain an upright life. We're expected to try our best to do right by God, and show others His ways. At the same time, we're not expected to do it alone, because God is always with us through our many periods of “wilderness”, and “Promised Lands”. He gives us free will, but sometimes we're so enthralled with our “worldly” life that we miss His calling. Now you may be asking yourself, "if evil is inevitable then way even bother with trying to be good"? Well the answer to that question lies in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He came in the flesh and was tempted in every way that we are, yet remained untouched evil. Through Him we have hope, because He offers us strength, righteousness, love, and most importantly Salvation. When we're covered with His the blood, we’re lead by the Spirit, and the love of God keeps us moving forward, and not constantly going in circles. That is a reason to rejoice! Through Jesus we're being renewed from the inside out, and when we nurture that relationship, and work towards growth in Him, we'll learn how to separate ourselves from evil. Remember it’s written, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The only way to do that is through the Jesus Christ, and right now He’s calling you, accept Him today. My favorite verses today are: For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. (Isaiah 54:7-8)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Today marks the first day of Lent, so are you ready to endure your season of sacrifice, renewal, and evaluation? Growing up, I don't ever remember recognizing the Lent season at my church, so I thought it was more for the Catholic Church, but now that I know what it symbolizes, I'm going to take it more seriously. I wanted to share this quote that I found: Today we begin a 46–day journey (forty days not counting Sundays) to Easter, but the destination is meaningless to those who do not make the trip. (~Dr. Craddock) We have to make it a point to seek ye first the Kingdom of God every day of the year, but it doesn't hurt to participate in something this special, with other members of the church, because there's always strength in numbers. Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be sure to encourage someone. Today's Black History Month Quote is: "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." (~Booker T. Washington) Be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about burnt offering, and the significance of its ashes. Today we're commemorating Ash Wednesday, which is “a day of repentance”, and it marks the beginning of Lent. According to a few Christianity websites, the ashes are produced from old Palm leaf Crosses leftover from last years Palm Sunday. The Palms are blessed, anointed with oil, and in some cases scented with incense, then burned. In most Church ceremonies the ashes (or paste) is used to draw a cross on the believer’s forehead, by the Minister, who recites: Remember (O man) that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" (Gen 3:19), "Repent, and believe the Gospel," or "Turn away from sin, and be faithful to the Gospel." (Mark 1:15) From the beginning of time a blood sacrifice was required to forgive sin (Gen 3:21). God gave Moses the Ten Commandments (the Divine Law), and He also gave Him the laws to be forgiven of sin. Sin could only be forgiven through offerings, and the instructions are found in the book of Leviticus. Chapter four explains the process of "Sin Offering. In a condensed version, a blemish free animal had to be sacrificed on the Alter of the Temple, and after the blood was poured, and the animal or part of the animal was burnt on the Alter. It's written that the animal was then carried out to a clean place and the ashes poured out and burned on wood with fire. The ashes remind us that we're all created from dust. The fire represents the purification of the unclean thing. Could you imagine going through all of that? I thank God for having mercy on us, and paying our sin debt in full. He so loved us that He gave us only begotten Son to die for us. Jesus became our sacrificial Lamb, and wiped away the penalties of sin once and for all. He surrendered because that was what God called Him to do, so He hung, bleed, and died on the cross for our transgressions. Before He went through this horrible ordeal John the Baptist baptized Him in water. After He went under the water and came back up the Heavens opened up and a voice said, "You are My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Mark 1:9-11). It's written: Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him. (Mark 1:12-13) Jesus had to take some time away from everything and everyone to center Himself with God, so that He could be prepared for what he was going to face. So far we’ve learned the process of sacrifices and why they had to be made. We know that we're born into a weak and sinful flesh, which is nothing but dust. We also know that we each are special, and our Spirit will live on through all eternity. The ashes remind us of our mortality, the fact that this life will end sooner or later, and that there is something bigger than earthly wealth and pleasure. God is righteous and clean, and only deals with clean things, so we have to make sure that we're striving for righteousness daily through Christ. Today we must go to God and repent of our sins, letting Him know that we're weak and we need the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We're to acknowledge our weaknesses, and the things that have a tight hold on us. Everyday we face reproach for Jesus' sakes. We're ridiculed and mocked by unbelievers, and tempted by the devil. When you've decided what or how you're fasting today, remember that it has to be a true sacrifice; something that you seemingly can't do without. Each time you feel like giving into temptation remember the ashes of our "Burnt Offering" Jesus Christ. He sacrificed His entire life for us, so we could sacrifice a few things for Him, for at least forty days. It's said that it only takes twenty-one days to form a new habit, so by Easter Sunday, you should have grown tremendously. Think of life beyond Lent, and how much you need to build a stronger relationship with God. An Imitation of Christ is what we're called to be, but "WE" are the only person who could take that step to get there. Salvation is free to all who believe that Jesus is the "only begotten Son of God", died on the Cross to atone for our sins, was resurrected on the third day, and now sits on a throne in Heaven at the right hand of God. If you believe these things, all you need to do now is confess that you're a sinner, ask Him to come into your heart as Lord and Savior, and accept Him. The next and most necessary step is to be baptized by water, to cleansed and renewed by Faith and obedience. Remember that prayer is a conversation with God. Talk to Him often, and about everything, and He's faithful and just to answer all of your prayers. A strong prayer life is necessary to get through the lent season, and life in general. My favorite verse today is: Rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings: that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. (1 Peter 4:13)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone, and you're enjoying this terrific Tuesday. Today is also known as Fat Tuesday, which falls the day before the beginning of the Lenten season, and Ash Wednesday. It’s said that today we're permitted to overindulge in the things we're committing to give up through our fasting period. My friend sent this to me earlier today, and I wanted to share it with you: Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. Are you ready to start your fasting process tomorrow? Fasting doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up food, but something that's near and dear to you, that will require sacrifice on your part. Last year I did pretty well with my menial sacrifice, but it kept me in constant contact with Jesus. This year I pledge to do something more meaningful, and put more time into my bible studies. I urge you to pray on this tonight, do your "soul searching", and remember that this is a serious vow you're making for Christ. Today's Black History month quote is: "God gives nothing to those who keep their arms crossed." (-African Proverb) Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about the precious Jesus Christ. Jesus is often referred to as sweet smelling ointment. The word ointment is mentioned in at least twenty-nine different verses in the King James version of the bible, and in majority of those verses it was used to anoint someone special, or given as a special gift. In modern times we use ointments to help heal deep wounds, as well us help us look and feel better. Would you use those definitions to describe Jesus? Jesus is in fact precious in all senses of the word, and the gift of His presence in our life enhances the way that we're perceived to the world. Through the Lenten Season, during your times of prayer and meditation, you should read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and as a friend put it earlier, "See yourself walking with Jesus through these books". They will help you get to know Him on a personal level, and allow you to see how wonderful and precious He really is. I've read the book of Matthew twice, and the rest of the books once. The knowledge I gained from them allowed me to not only learn the character of Jesus Christ, but the ways of Gods, through parables, Jesus’ own life experiences, and through the life of those around Him. As we read, we’ll virtually experience His hardships, joys, pains, and most importantly we get to know both His human and Spiritual sides. Jesus is indeed meek in Spirit, loving, forgiving, caring, but straight to the point, and passionate about the Word of our Father in Heaven. He was always slow to anger and quick to forgive, and He kept God first in everything He did. We're to use His life as a blueprint of how to live pleasing to God, because that's the only thing that matters. As Christians, it's constantly drilled in our heads that we should strive to be like Christ, but I don't think most of us get it. All we have to do is look around, and we'll see a big difference in our way of life. The only reason this world is the way it is today is because we have lost sight of what's most important. Most Nations were built on Christian beliefs, and the law of God was included in every decision our ancestors made. In the United States, “In God we trust” is printed on the currency, and our Pledge of Allegiance says, "One Nation, under God", so our foundation was built on the blood of Jesus. When we lose sight of Him, we lose our way, and we can see that all around us. Things must change for the better, or times will get worst. We must first change within ourselves before we could change anyone else. Jesus said: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30) These verses remind us of how sweet Jesus really is, and He's open to anyone who comes to Him. He's the sweet smelling ointment designed to heal our deep wounds, give us beauty for ashes, cleanse us from the inside out, and renew our souls. When we're anointed with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, and we take His yoke upon us everyday, there will be no mistake as to whom we are, because we'll shine brighter than everyone around us. Remember the old saying, "it's not what you do, but how you do it"? Make a commitment to live life for God, watch Him work in your life, and then touch the lives of the people around you. The key to real success is to revolve your life around Him. Only then will you be showered with peace, joy, happiness, continent, and everything you touch will be multiplied, revived, and renewed, by the Spirit that lives inside of you, for all eternity. I can only tell you about the life of Jesus Christ from my personal experiences, so it’s up to you to seek Him for yourself. When you do that, your Spirit will reveal exactly what you need to know, at this time in your life. I am here only to point you in the right direction. The precious Lamb of God loves you, and is waiting on you to answer His call. The first step is to invite Him as your Lord and Savior, and then you must initiate and maintain a relationship with Him. Believe me, He's seen and heard it all before, and yes He can and will heal you too. My favorite verse today is: Christ ... hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. (Ephesians 5:2)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY MONDAY!

Today's scriptures are about the human sin. What is sin, and why is it such a big deal? The word Sin is simply defined: transgression of divine law. This definition is simple and plain, but tells the entire story, because Sin is the violation of God’s law. The first man created, Adam, committed the first “sin” or violation, which caused him and his wife Eve to be separated from God. As time went on, and mankind multiplied in numbers, their ways became more evil and wicked. God used Moses to write out the “divine law”, which is otherwise known as the Ten Commandments, found in the book of Exodus chapter 20. We have lots of "shalt nots" in the bible, and we’ll violate several of them throughout our lifetime. The major blessing for you and me is the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Once we accept Him as Lord and Savior, His blood covers our sins, and we receive His Holy Spirit, which lives in our heart. With that being said, avoiding sin still is quite necessary, but is by far the hardest thing we’re faced with. Paul explained about the weakness of the flesh, and the constant battle between it and the Spirit, in Galatians chapter 5, where he urges us to walk in the Spirit at all times. Being aware of the Holy Spirit, and consulting Him with every step we take, is the only way to stay righteous, and even then we fall short. It's written: Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal. 5:19-21) Some of these things that Paul mentions seem to be really hard to avoid, like hatred or selfish ambitions. I know I struggle with a number of them daily, and I don't know many people who don’t. The one thing that gives me comfort when reading these, and verses alike, is the fact that I'm not alone. The devil will make us feel like we're the lowest of the low, or scum of the earth when we sin, but in all actuality everyone has and will do it; the only person who every walked the earth sin free is Jesus. I'm not saying this to excuse anything that we do, but the reason most people avoid Jesus, or "Religion" as a whole, is because they think that they must be perfect to serve God. Yes, we must be righteous to serve a righteous God, thus He makes righteousness obtainable through Jesus. It’s because of His perfection that we too could be perfect in God's eyes. That's a reason to rejoice, and sing Hallelujah! Know that if you are a child of God, you were created in His image, and He loves you. No longer allow the devil to tell you that you’re weird, bad, unlovable, hell bound, despicable, or wicked people, who will never change, because you’re no longer any of that in Christ. We still live in the flesh, and it's a battle everyday to avoid sin, but the more we change our focus, the easier it'll get. The more time we give to learning the ways of Jesus, and working for the Kingdom of God, the less our urge to sin becomes. Have confidence in knowing that God who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:6). We're all works in progress, but are still expected to grow in our walk with God. The only reason you may not be growing is because you haven't changed anything. Sin is a choice that we don't have to make, but when we do, it will make our life a living hell. If you're tired of living a life full of strife, then you need to make better choices. The right choice is Jesus, because He is the only way to the Father. If you don't know Him as Lord and Savior, then you need to say a prayer asking Him to forgive you of your sins, and to come into your life. When you make, or have made, that decision you still need to choose Him everyday. I'll leave you with the words of Jesus: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matt 7:13-14) My favorite verses today are: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today's scriptures are about us belonging to Jesus. He’s the epitome of Love! We all have heard the Name of Jesus before, because most of us are "Christian", however who do YOU say that Jesus is? When I say that we should worship, praise, and honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ what does that mean to you? Did you know that you should be striving to be "like Christ" on a daily basis? I have one more question for you, why is it that we aren't, in most cases, doing what we need to do through Jesus, knowing who He is? Maybe we don't truly know who He is, and if that's the case, we must eagerly seek Him. We belong to Jesus, and through Him we have inherited many wonderful rewards, earthly and eternally. He is our Lord, Master, Messiah, Chief, Ruler, and much much more. He was a teacher full of wisdom, born to be the leader of all mankind, and through Him our relationship with God has come full circle. As soon as we become believers of Christ, we're instantly given Eternal Life in Heaven, His Holy Spirit to help us through everyday life on earth, and perpetual forgiveness of sin. Jesus said: If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. (John 12:26) We all have choices in life, and our fate depends on them. It's written: For many are called, but few are chosen. (Matt. 22:14) How does it feel to know that if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, you were not only called, but also chosen? Because of the fact that you not only answered that call, but also choose Him, your life is changed forever. It's a change that's made from the inside out. Jesus made promises that He will never break, and to know these things gives us power to overcome the wickedness of the world. Knowing who we really are through Christ allows us to take some of that power out of the hands of the enemy, who rules this earth, because we're not of this world. We own that power, and can use the Name of Jesus in ways that'll give us the ability to accomplish all of the things appointed to us in life. It's not until then will we be able to do exactly what we're meant to do. Jesus had to be that "grain of wheat that fell to the ground and died, to produce much more wheat" (John 12:24). He brought life back to us, and put light back in our heart. He gave His life for the future, and most importantly He gave us a chance to be redeemed to Righteousness, and for that "we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). How many of you believe this about yourself? Jesus took life very seriously, and He made it a point that we all know just how much He loved us, and how He honestly understood our plights as humans living in an evil world. He became the precious, spotless, and blameless Lamb of God. Allow this message to set you free! Most Christians live their life in bondage, because they're salves of sin, guilt, and shame, but Jesus has unchained you from that. He said it Himself: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” (John 14:1-4) The only way to be ready receive your Crown of Glory, that Jesus has or will create for you, is to "follow Him". The first step is to say a prayer inviting Him into your heart as Lord and Savior, and confessing your sins. Once you've done that you truly have to learn the ways of Jesus, and of Our Father in Heaven. Pray often and without fail, have Faith far beyond sight, and Love with all of your heart. You'll find the answers to all of your questions through Him and Him alone. My favorite verses today are: I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. (John 17:9-10)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today's scriptures are about the importance of fellowship with fellow believers. I hear people say all the time, "I don't have to go to church to be saved", and I honestly believe that, because it's the truth. Jesus said salvation is open to all who come to Him. You are also building a "personal" relationship with God, however you need to fellowship with other believers in order to survive the wiles of the world. There's something about coming together as one church to praise God, and work together for His Kingdom. The church is built as a sanctuary for all of God's people; it's designed to bring people together in Christ. We serve each other and the community around us, and there are so many resources available. When we go to Church on Sunday morning we're going to give something back to God, through praise and worship, tithing, and serving. Most people go to Church to receive the Word, but it's much more than that. When I lived in Portland, OR I attended New Song Community Church, lead by Pastor Richard Pabasco (check out some of his teachings if you get a chance http://app.razorplanet.com/acct/40233-2325/tmpl/index.php?nid=13719&s=gl&preview=true.) Before he preached his sermons, we would have at least an hour of Praise and Worship, and we’d stand and sing songs of praise, dance, and shout out to the Lord. God loves nothing more than our Praises, because it shows that we love Him, and we confess it with our mouth, out in the open for everyone to hear. I used to conveniently show up to church after the praise and worship session was over, because frankly I enjoyed that extra hour of sleep. I thought that as long as I was receiving the Word of God then I was covered. After a few weeks of that, I somehow felt unfulfilled, like something was missing. I prayed about it, because there was a lot going on in my life, and I felt a little empty and alone. At the time, I'm asking God what's happening, because I go to church every Sunday, I pray regularly, and I try to do my best to be a good person. His answer came to me shortly after that prayer through a radio show by Dr. Charles Stanley. Dr. Stanley said something like: "I know about those of you who conveniently show up late to church, after praise and worship time is over, and think that's okay. Did you know that you're a very selfish person, and you're taking from God without giving anything back?” When I heard that it was almost like the wind was knocked out of me. I felt so convicted because that's exactly what I was doing. Dr. Stanley went on to explain the importance of giving back to God through praise whether, song, dance, shouting, or however you openly express your love to Him. All of that time I was being selfish, and just going to church for my own gain. After I started showing up to church on time, participating in the activities, volunteering my time whenever I could, and fellowshipping on days other than Sunday, there was a huge change in me from the inside. I think of the hard times I faced, and wondered what if those people weren’t then for me? We're all we have, so if we don't look out for each other, than who will? I write these devotionals in hopes that I could touch at least one person on a daily basis, and show them the love of God through my life. I know that I'm not perfect, but who is? Paul said it best in his letter to the Philippians during his first Roman imprisonment, thanking them for their love and help while he was there, so I’ll leave you with this: I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. (Phil. 1:3-11) Regular attendance in church does so much to strengthen our relationship with God, look at what it did for Paul, and how strongly he felt about His family in Christ. If you don't know Jesus as Lord and Savior, or are going through a period of doubt or hardship, then if you go to a good church, I'm sure that there's someone there waiting to pray with, or console you. I attend Fairfax Christian Church in Fairfax, VA, so if you're in the area, feel free to come and check it out one Sunday morning. It's small in numbers but powerful in Spirit. My favorite verse today is: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY MONDAY!

Today's scriptures are about learning the secrets of God. Did you know that you couldn’t truly know God unless you're in the Spirit? We learn in the Old Testament of the Bible, God revealed Himself to certain people, who where chosen to complete great tasks. However, even then, when asked Who He was, His only answer was "I AM that I AM" (Exo. 3:14). Although every human being is a child of God, and He's never loved any of us any differently, that close bond to Him couldn't be made, because of sin. He walked with Moses when He freed the slaves, and He was right next to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they walked through the fiery furnace. He had a personal relationship with Job, Jeremiah, and Noah, and also led them through specific tasks that He needed them to complete. God offers that same closeness and one on one bonding to us. Because of Salvation through Jesus, we've been baptized in the Spirit of God. He's revealed Himself through His son Jesus Christ, and by Jesus we’re shown the compassion, love, and forgiveness of God. We can go to God and ask for His wisdom and expect for it to be given, because He will reveal Himself as we seek Him. With Jesus we can hear, see, and speak to our Father in Heaven, when we keep His commandments, which includes loving Him with all of our heart. Jesus said it best: “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another." (John 15:14-17) Jesus made it so that we can have a "relationship" with God, and not just be here to serve Him. Of course we all have a greater job to do for the Kingdom, but we cannot adequately share the love of God with others, if we haven't truly experienced it for ourselves. God originally created Adam for fellowship, but along the way, when sin was introduced, the separation began. Jesus has since mended that, paying the penalty for sin, hence bringing us to this great and awesome revelation of Who God really is. There are so many questions about who God is, and I know for a fact that there isn't any believer who's never doubted God. Whenever we doubt that God will answer our prayers, or allow fear to run our lives, we've lost Faith in Him. The only way that happens is because we're not spending adequate time to get to know Him. He has always been gracious and kind, but we have allowed sin to hinder our relationship with Him. Even the Prophet Isaiah said: Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him. (Isaiah 30:18) Our Father in Heaven is the same God Isaiah and was referring Jesus. God is deeper than anything we could ever imagine, and your Daily Devotionals or Sunday morning Church service only scratches the surface, because you have to seek God for yourself. The Holy Spirit has a personal message for all of us. If you don't know Jesus as Lord and Savior, please go to God right now and ask for Salvation through Jesus Christ, once you've confessed your sins. If you ever need prayer please let me know. My favorite verse today is: God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (2 Corinthians 2:10)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Here's today's black history quote: "The battles that count aren't the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself--the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us--that's where it's at." (-Jesse Owens) Enjoy the rest of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about backsliding. We know that it’s God who delivers us from evil, yet it is up to us to follow the paths He's laid before us. There's no mistake, when God frees us from bondage we're free forever, and there is no going back. However, we have freedom to choose right from wrong, and because of the mere fact that we're Christians, the enemy will tempt us more often and more severely than others. Which unfortunately causes a large number of us to backslid. The enemy tests our will power to shake our relationship with God, and to bring us back into his kingdom, but God is always greater. Each day starts a new day in our Faith walk, so it's up to us to keep our relationship fresh and new with God. Study His word daily and communicate with Him often, to stay focused on the true meaning of life. To carry the title "Christian" means that we're representing Christ in everything we do. When we are weak, God makes us strong, but we're also commanded to repent from sin. Each of us was once lost to the ways of the world, and sin was our favorite pastime, and I'm not pointing fingers, I'm speaking from personal experience. There were times when I thought nothing of the sins I committed, or of the fact that I was blatantly disobeying God's word. I was "having fun", experimenting, “finding my way”, or whatever other clever excuse I could come up with, but when God saved me, there was no denying His place in my life. It's written: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. (Eph 5:8-12) There is no mistake as to where you are right now in your life, or the fact that you're reading this message. God calls each of us for a reason, and it's not okay to ignore His calling on your life, nor disregard His commands. It’s wrong to choose Him today, and ignore tomorrow. Growth is a normal part of life and relationships alike, and that goes for our walk with God as well. Paul says it best here: When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1 Cor. 13:11) Just as Moses, another strong man of God, we must choose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin (Heb. 11:25). God gives us every opportunity, through Jesus Christ, to do great things in His Name, but sin and a lack of faith are our only hindrances. Make up your mind today, because God doesn't tolerate the back and forth; you're either for Him or against Him, light or dark, there’s no in between. Be very careful to stay on the path, and when you feel that temptation is getting to be too much, pray and ask for strength and it will be given to you. If you find that you’ve backslid, always remember that Jesus said if he had a flock of one hundred sheep, and one was lost, He would leave the ninety-nine to look for that one lost sheep, and all of heaven will rejoice when it's found (Luke 15:4-7). God knows us better than we know ourselves, and forgiveness is offered to anyone who asks, so don't waste any more time in the past. The peace that surpasses all understanding is worth more than a few minutes of temporary pleasure for the flesh. The past is just that, the past, it's over and done with, and there's no going back to relive it. Time travel is only in the movies, so when you fall down, get back up, and keep it moving. Our past hurts and pains were meant for us to learn and grown from, so don’t allow it to keep you in sin. Lust, fornication, adultery, drunkenness, envy, deceit, and lies are all temporary fixes to our problems, but Jesus is the permanent fix for all of Eternity. If you don't know Him as Lord and Savior get to know Him today. He's actively seeking His lost sheep, so the only thing you have to do is accept Him. Once you’re saved there is no turning back. My favorite verse today is: The Lord hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. (Deuteronomy 17:16)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Here’s our black history quote of the day is: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." (-Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Today's scriptures are about strength with and for the Lord. In life there must be some sort of balance, that's why we're taught that we reap what we sow; there's a natural order of things. Being children of God we're expected to do our share of the work in His Kingdom. When we follow His will, and work for Him, we become stronger, wiser, and filled with love. It's written: Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “ I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea." (Isa. 48:17-18) The children of Israel had long been disobedient to God, and they missed out on so many blessings and labored in vain. We have a gift that they didn’t have, so when we enter into God’s Kingdom we become “Joint Heirs” with Christ, which means we have an awesome responsibility. We're made to be strong and regal, able to withstand the wiles or the devil, and be leaders of this nation filled with wicked and perverse ways. We're to diligently work to better our lives, and the lives of all those around us. As we know, Jesus didn't have what we may call an "easy life". He walked through Nations on a mission to touch as many lives with the Gospel as He possible could. He was at the beck and call of His Heavenly Father, following His every command. There are stories about how hard He worked, as well as the times He celebrated with His friends, and the times He took for Himself to pray, meditate, and fast. He was a true Servant who never gave up, even though He knew His fate. He still had a balance in life, and that's how He kept that "peace that flowed like a river". There are countless others we can read about in the Bible like Peter, Paul, James, Timothy, Job, David, Solomon, Samuel, Mary, etc., and I could go on and on. We're given these stories to help strengthen our Faith. Through them we're taught that when we surrender to God, awesome things happen, as well as the fact that life isn't always easy, yet God gives us the strength to endure all things. Strength comes from within, and when our Spirit and mind is strong, we can overcome any obstacle, achieve any goal, and raise above all earthly standards. We must seek God in everything we do, because when we try to live life on our own, and follow our own agenda it will never work. The Prophet Isaiah once said: "I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the LORD, and my work with my God.’” (Isa 49:4) Have you ever felt this way? I have to admit I have, and it's not a good feeling. I can remember times when I've knowingly, and unknowingly, gone against God, and done things that weren’t in His will for me. It was like trying to dig a ditch with a spoon. I worked so hard, yet accomplished so little, and at the end of the day I was unhappy, unfulfilled, and drained. Then there are the times I’ve followed God’s will, and did the unthinkable. I soared above the earth’s standards with such regal strength, that you could see Jesus through me. If you're at a place in life where you feel weak, unfulfilled, and unhappy, then seek God for the strength to endure. Ask Him to show you the will He has for your life, and be willing to work. When working for God we'll face times of weariness, extreme exhaustion, and urges to give up, but those are usually times where we’ve lost our focus. If that's how you feel right now, re-center yourself, and go to God for rejuvenation. Remember, we all have to take time off to rest, or to just pray and meditate, just like Jesus. If you don't have Jesus in your heart then you won't truly know strength, because all things from God, including strength, come through Him. Go to God today and ask Jesus to come into your life as Lord and Savior. My offer to pray with you always stands, so no matter day or night contact me. It's my life's work to share the love, joy, and peace Jesus has brought into my life, in hopes that it'll do the same for you. My favorite verse today is: Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone, and you're enjoying another terrific Tuesday. February is Black History month, and it’s set aside to recognize the lives of important and influential black men in woman in the United States. There are so many who've played major roles in allowing us to have the freedom we have today. I found an article with 20 famous quotes by some of those who pioneered the way, and I'll share some with you throughout the month. Here’s a nice one: "Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise. I rise. I rise." (-Maya Angelou) We've come a long way, so be proud of who you are, and of your heritage, and be sure to do your best to live a life that would make your ancestors proud, after all, they put in a lot of blood sweat and tears to get you here (that goes for all races and creeds). Enjoy the rest of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about deliverance from evil and temptation. Did you know that it's not totally up to you to change your evil ways? You are not alone in your struggles with the flesh, because we all have weaknesses. Jesus said it best when He taught us the way to pray. Even He was surrounded and attacked by evil on a daily basis, but of course He always prevailed, and because of Him, so could we. I'm sure most of you know the King James Version of the Lord’s Prayer, but I’ll share it anyway. It's written: ...Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matt 6:9-13) When Jesus gave this "Sermon on the Mount", He’d experienced life, so He knew the ways of the Spirit, and the ways of the flesh. He gives us everything we need to live in righteousness in this one prayer. We learn that we're to always acknowledge God for who He is, as well as the fact that it's His will and not ours, to Him ask for His assistance daily, ask for forgiveness and forgive, and finally ask for deliverance from temptation and evil. These are the five most important keys to life, and evil and temptation are the biggest speed bumps we’ll encounter. The only way to overcome evil is to submit to God's will, and focus on Him and Him alone. God knows it's easier said than done, which is yet another reason for His saving grace. The part we play in our Faith walk is to acknowledge both sides. Know that greater is He who is in you, than he who's in the word, nonetheless, the “he” who's in the world is a very powerful being as well. We can't fight him alone, because he's crafty and smart, knows God and His Word, and the ways of the world. Jesus said: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." (Matt. 10:16) We have to be aware of the world around us, but not allow it to harden our hearts. I notice as I grow in my Faith walk that I've become more sensitive to human life and suffering, yet cunningly aware of the evil that lurks. These skills are acquired from God, and His wisdom comes from above. Evil is a pandemic like the Swine flu it could spread like wildfires. We must be careful of our surroundings, our choice of entertainment, and the people we choose to associate with, because the devil will use anything and anyone to promote evil in our life. As we become familiar with our Holy Spirit, and strengthen our communication with Him [which includes attentively listening to His guidance], our decrement becomes sharper. Paul taught us in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, that we must glorify God in body and Spirit. It’s written: Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. (vs. 19-20) Our minds work like computers, everything that we see and hear on a daily basis is data entered, and we can only put out, what’s been put in. The only way to obtain true righteousness is to seek the right knowledge and understanding through the Holy Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other Christians. Jesus taught us to be aware of the evil around us, and He stressed the fact that we should pray for deliverance, because no man is above it. Without Jesus you're out here alone, with no amour to protect you from the evils of the world, and once again the only way to be delivered is through the Blood of Jesus. If you don't know Him as Lord and Savior, please go to Him in prayer, and He's sure to answer. What's your other alternative? Take a few moments to think about that, and let me know if you need prayer partner. My favorite verse today is: Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. (Revelations 3:10)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

Today's scriptures are about Faith in God, who we've never physically seen. Jesus was a teacher of Faith, and He always made sure that we know of its importance. He was harder on His followers because they were actually there walking with Him, and witnessed the wonderful miracles He performed. it frustrated Him that they still didn't have strong Faith. We have stories like the one when Jesus and the prophets were on a boat, and a great storm came, Jesus was at the bottom of the boat sleeping, yet the rest of the crew was panicking. They woke Him up and asked, "You see we're about to die, why are you just laying around sleeping?" Jesus simply said: “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. The only response the others had was: "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matt. 8:23-27) Could you imagine being there and Jesus looking at you like you're crazy? They had the all mighty Christ on board, and they’ve confessed Him as such, yet they were still afraid. Jesus has taught over and over again that we could trust Him, and He will never let the righteous fall, yet we still fail to do so. After all, Faith is merely trust. We're taught that God is always with us, Jesus lives in our heart, and there's no need to worry or fear, yet when the storms of life hit we panic, instead of going to the only person who could calm the storm. God has plans for us, and sometimes they don't always coincide with our plans, and we're tested to strengthen our Faith. Just like the story of when Jesus walked on water, and He called Peter out to join Him. As long as Peter kept his focus on Jesus he stayed on top of the water, but as soon as a little wind blew, and he focused on his "situation" he started to sink. (Matt. 14:22-33) Jesus reply is always "O ye of little Faith, why do you doubt"? Have you ever been in a situation where you called on Jesus for help, and things were going great, but as soon as the task became harder, and you were tested further, things just turned horribly wrong? In every situation like this, things won't get better until we turn to Jesus, and keep our faith in Him. What is your answer to Jesus' question, "why do you doubt"? If Jesus gives us promises like, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you." (Luke 17:6), then why do we still doubt? The answer to that question is obvious, but it comes to each of us in due time. It's written, “Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith." (Habakkuk 2:4) Habakkuk was a Prophet who was caught up in a world full of calamity and strife, and he complained to God about the wicked things going on around him. God answered Habakkuk with the truth, and explained basically that you reap what you sow, and the things that his nation were going through was a direct result of the things they had done in the past. God told Habakkuk to write this down, and by faith he did. He vowed to continue to praise God, and rejoice in the Lord for his personal deliverance. We learn from the Gospel of Jesus that there are three major things we must possess in order to inherit that abundant life that He came to give, and they’re love, faith, and obedience to God's word. Love is the greatest of the three, but when we love Him with all of our heart, that means that we've experienced His unconditional love for us. When that happens, we'll have faith in Him, and be obedient to His will for us. The first act of obedience would be to step out of the boat, and walk to Jesus. Once He has your hand, He'll never let you sink. Pray and ask Him to come into your life as Lord and Savior, and keep your eyes on Him, He'll do the rest. My favorite verse today is: In whom ye trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. (Ephesians 1:13)
