Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today's scriptures are about looking forward to Jesus' return. Jesus said: “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming" (Matt. 25:13). Jesus always taught us to be aware of our righteousness, specifically our conduct, speech, faith, and our ability to help others find their way. He's coming back one day, when we least expect it, so we much be conscious of our demeanor. I compare it to our conduct in church, around our parents, or other respected authority figures. I remember as a young girl I used to swear like a sailor, and it amazed me how it seemed like I couldn’t. I had a filthy mouth when I hung around with friends my age, but if I was around my mother or grandmother, you would never have known such words were in my vocabulary. I know a lot of you did things your parents told you not to do, maybe snuck friends in the house when you they weren't home, thinking you wouldn't get caught. However, there was always the danger of never knowing the time that your mom or dad would be home. If you knew they were coming at a certain time, the house would be clean, and you'd be studying or quiet as a church mouse, and they would never had known that you'd just had a party earlier that day. What we didn't know is that our parents often knew or found out what we were doing all along, so there was nothing that we could really hid from them. As children we acted that way because we didn't know any better, but as we grew into adults, we matured. That's the natural order of things, especially in our Faith walk. When we initially become saved, we're ignorant to the ways and teachings of Christ, so we're not expected to live like we've been saved for years; however we are expected to actively mature. Paul wrote: When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1 Cor. 13:11)
Upon Jesus' return, we'll all be judged accordingly, so it's important to look forward to it. I'll ask you a sobering question, which I want you to think about long and hard about. If Jesus was to appear right now to take you home, do you think you'd be "ready"? My previous Pastor posed this question all the time, "Will Jesus say to 'well done good and faithful servant', or 'depart from me I never knew you'?" These are things that you should think about with every decision that you make. Always ask yourself, "will this be pleasing to God?", because that's what's most important in life. Not so much how successful you are, how much money you have in the bank, or the size house you lived in. No, God will measure your heart, how much you loved Him and loved your neighbors. Did you come to Him for everything, did you obey His commandments to the best of your ability, did you help others in need, and did you spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those are what matters most to God.
With so much temptation in the world it's so hard to “live by the book” everyday and in all things, believe me I know. A friend asked me the other day “do I practice what I preach” and I had to take a long hard look at that. I have to honestly say, to the best of my ability, yes I do. Do I falter, yes, do I miss the mark sometimes, absolutely, but with each day am I better than I was the day before, most definitely, because in most cases I've taken the opportunity to repent for my sins, and learn from them. If you only take but one thing out of today's message I want it to be, "try your best". Listen to your Holy Spirit, and those times when you know what He's telling you to do, but because of your flesh you want to go the other way, try your best to resist the devil, and He will flee from you. It's hard at first, but I promise you, with each victory, it gets easier.
When Jesus returns He'll be looking first for those who have been covered by His blood, then by those who have repented for their sins. First question, have you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior? Second question, do you have a relationship with God, through Christ? Third and final question, are you ready? My favorite verse today is: And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. (Isaiah 25:9)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone, and you're enjoying this beautiful Friday-eve. I'm doing well, just a bit sleepy, but I'll survive. I'm grateful for another day, and thankful for the joy of each minute, and of every breath. We watched a video in church this past Sunday by Rob Bell called Breathe, and it was so enlightening. It spoke about how God breathed breath into Adam, after He'd created Him from the dirt, and how that relates to the breath we breathe each minute. It's all made possible by God, so He's connected to us with each breath that we take. This makes you think about the power and love of God, how fascinating is that? I urge you to take a look at it, when you get some time http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4657662595934098105#. Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about trusting God to be good to us. I don't know how many times I say, "God is good" per day. As of late, it's been a lot, so it's almost like second nature. No matter how big or small the victories, I always start my testimony off with, "God is good". Most days, my standard response to a greeting of "How are you?" is "I'm doing well, God is good". It's embedded in my Spirit, because I'm truly realizing more and more each day, just how good God really is. He's always good, especially to those who love Him enough to trust Him with their whole heart.
Actually He's great and merciful to anyone, no matter the religion, race, color, or creed. People who are in need can call upon His Name, because the Holy Spirit is a free gift given to those who humbly confesses their sins, and prays for salvation through Jesus Christ. Only a truly merciful and just God would offer something so precious. He's so good that He'll take you just as you are, and will mold you into the person He intended you to be. We’re His creations, so He loves us like a Father loves His child; therefore, when we do good things we're rewarded, and we when we do bad things we're punished. In the end even our punishments are rewards, because He teaches us through them. Rewards are far more than wealth and material possessions, as the world would have us believe, but they're anything that brings us peace, joy, and happiness, the greatest fruits of the Spirit.
The very foundation of life is built upon the love of God, and His goodness has been proven from the beginning of time. He’s given us (mankind) chance after chance and opportunity after opportunity to be righteous and reconciled. He’s given great leaders for His sheep, and His living Word to help see us through. He offered atonement from sin, through the blood of a blemish free lamb (or other valuable animal), even before the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ. All He’s ever asked of us is love and obedience.
God loves our praise and thanksgiving, and I don’t believe that that’s too much to ask, compared to the great things He’s done in our life. I’m sure there’s a few of you who may have had it rough, or may have suffered a hard life. You may have witnessed great pain and sorrow your life, or in the life of the people you love. You may even turn on the television and watch the news and wonder why so many people suffer horrible fates, and question God’s actions, but I can assure you, there are meanings behind it all. Remember this, God is Sovereign, and He never does anything in vain, so count it all joy! We can choose to live life in fear or bitterness, or we could choose to seek out His goodness. As a child of God, even when you do go through rough spots, they’re meant for you good. Don’t be afraid to have a conversation with God weighing the pros and cons. Ask Him for some answers and guidance, and be open and ready to receive them. King David suffered many defeats, yet also experienced God’s best. He wrote many Psalms about his ups and downs, so I’m going to leave you with a few verses from Psalm 34:

I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.
(Psalm 34-4-10)

Will you seek the Lord today? I promise you, if you do so, you’ll only find His goodness in everything. He’s known to transform situation, circumstances, but most importantly your heart. If you haven’t already, take Dr. Stanley’s God quiz today! My favorite verse today is: As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. (2 Samuel 22:31)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Today's scriptures are about the Shepherd to the Sheep. Why is Jesus often referred to as our Shepherd? Most importantly, why are we often referred to as His sheep? Well thanks to some research, I've found that sheep are often "prey" animals. They have the natural instinct to follow the leader, usually travel in crowds, and they often panic when faced with stressful situations, based on their "herd mentality". They aren’t considered the brightest of the animals, but their smart enough to know how to follow the right path laid out for them. According to this, and other sources, sheep are similar to humans, especially when it comes to our culture. We do tend to "herd" like sheep, and we succumb to the most popular trend.
The Shepherd is a person appointed to lead the sheep. He familiarizes himself with them, by constantly caring for them, so that they would trust him enough to follow. The Shepherd is usually a confident leader, and commands the attention of the sheep. He’s been appointed to the flock, to make sure that they get from one destination to the other safely. He allows the sheep to roam freely, because they're often good at following the direction of the leader, until they're lead astray by a predator, or another strong-minded sheep. Jesus is referred to as our Shepherd because He offers everything we need to make it to our destination safely. He'll provide living water, food for our souls, and protection from predators, so all we have to do is follow.
The enemy is always looking for an opportunity to attack us, and he does it in any type of way. If we lose sight of our Shepherd, then we also leave ourselves open to those attacks, which could ultimately lead to our destruction, or we'll fall victim to the ways of the world and succumb to the flesh.
When we are in this world with no leadership, or guidance, we're lost. We tend to do things that aren't becoming of us, and fall into bad habits, because we know no other way. We don't have the positive leadership, nor can we see clearly the road ahead, so we maintain the best way we know how. I remember being in that very dark place, not too long ago. I can remember having no sense of direction or purpose, and not knowing my left from my right. The parable of the Lost Sheep helped me out tremendously! Jesus said: “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish." (Matt 18:11-14) The day I read this scripture for the first time, in Joyce Meyer's book "Be Anxious for Nothing", it was one of the brightest spots in my life, because at that time I truly felt the love of God. The Holy Spirit allowed it to resonate in my heart, and I learned that just because I was lost, Jesus never stopped looking for me. When I finally found my way back home, God and all of Heaven rejoiced at my return. I was that one important sheep! There was never a time when He wasn't looking for me, or knocking at my door waiting on me to answer. He's always waiting with open arms, because He's been given the awesome job of being our Shepherd, and He doesn't take that job lightly.
He doesn’t lead us like dogs with leashes, but we're allowed to journey with Him and make our own choices, because He trust us love Him enough to follow His familiar voice. He offers salvation, and is slow to anger and quick to forgive, because we need to be able to trust and rely on our leader to be there no matter what. Jesus is the true and highest Shepherd of all mankind. He earned our trust by the lifestyle He lead, and the sacrifice He made for us. I don't know about, but I will follow anyone who loved me enough to give up His life for me. Someone who never sinned, was always honest and true, and but sacrificed it all for a sinner like me, and asked for nothing but love in return.
When you stray, the enemy's best attack is to make you feel guilty for your sins, worthless, and shameful for your transgressions, so much so, you feel like you're not worthy of God's blessings, or Jesus’ gift of Salvation. The enemy leaves you feeling empty inside, which causes you to not only fear God to a point where you stop communicating with Him, but also hide from Him when He's calling you. All of these things can be overcome by simply returning home, asking God for forgiveness of your sins, with a heart of repentance, and accepting that forgiveness for what it is, a clean slate. He's done that for me, on numerous occasions, because He's the God of the second, third, forty-ninth, or fiftieth chance. No matter how much you stray, if you come to Him with a humble heart, He'll always forgive you, and welcome you back home. God loves you; it's just as simple as that. It grieves His heart to see you in pain, or to know that you're lost in the wilderness trying to find your way home. If that’s you, consider this your call home; He's waiting to hear from you. If you don't know Jesus, start there first. My favorite verses today are: I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:14,27-28)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

Today's scriptures are about the love of God, and the great pleasures He has in store for us. When you think of God, and how good He’s been in your life, how would you answer the question, “How great is God”? John shared his thoughts with us, and it's written: How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3) John said "everyone" who has hope in God, will be purified. Our hope in God therefore shows our love for Him, and He has great roads paved for those how love Him. All we have to do is trust Him with our life, by following His commands, and the sky's the limit. We're meant to live in abundance, and have great joy in life, through Jesus Christ, so God will make sure we get there. Jesus said: "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21)
Knowing that God has had our life planned out, from the beginning of time, helps us understand how very precious we are. We're His chosen children called into service, so there's a reason for us to be here. God doesn't work the way the world works, and we must surrender to Him, so that He can conform us to His ways. There's always great pleasure when we're walking with Him, no matter what's happening in our life. With God, we'll find the beauty in ashes, because He's fixed our heart to be able to think that way.
Our feeble minds aren't able to understand how vast the love and knowledge of God is, so we can't begin to figure out what's going to happen in the future, and we're not expected too. He only expects our trust and that we follow the leadership of His Holy Spirit. I promise, from experience, when you Cast your cares upon the Lord and leave them there, you have nothing else to worry about. If you pray the way Jesus taught you, and in His Name, then all of your bases are covered.
When you get the urge to follow Him in a certain way, that may or may not be logical to the world, but it feels right in your spirit, then go for it, and only joy will follow. Never say never when it comes to God, because He won't set you up for failure. He'll provide your every need, and light your every path, because it was predestined that way. There's nothing more fulfilling than to know that you've completely surrendered, and you're making a difference, because He’s using you for something great. Surrender is the most important thing to God, and He’ll determine the “something great”. Remember He said, "I don't think as man thinks", so great to Him is far different than anything we could imagine. It's time to stop worrying about what people think, and comparing ourselves to their measure of success, and seek first the Kingdom of God. Learn the ways of Christ, and pray and ask God to show you what He thinks is great, and what you need to do to make Him proud.
Consider the life of Jesus, He wasn't a rich man, didn't have fancy clothes, a big house, or jewels, like King Solomon or King David, but He was rich in Spirit. He got to do things that only others could dream of. He made a real difference in the life of others. Yes he was persecuted, talked about, and ultimately tortured and killed, but none of that mattered to Him, because He had an eternal joy that we couldn’t imagine, because He surrendered, and so have thousands of others who's chosen to walk that path. We must learn to lose ourselves and take on our roles as servants of the Most High God. God will in turn serve those who serve Him. He takes great pleasure when you're following in His ways, and don’t worry, the Holy Spirit will show you how.
Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior is only a part of it. Surrender takes you saying, "Lord here's my heart open to You, my body sacrificed to serve You, and I’ll love You for ever and ever, Amen". I've been saved since I was a young girl, but I hadn't surrendered until about 5 years ago, and I've learned to surrender every day since. If you don't know Jesus as Lord and Savior then take that first step right now. If you do have Jesus in your heart, yet still haven't experienced the joy of the Lord deep inside, then you need to surrender right now. He's waiting to hear from each of you. My favorite verse today is: Since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. (Isaiah 64:4)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY MONDAY!

I pray all is well with everyone, and you're enjoying the beginning of another workweek (for most). I had a wonderful weekend, I embarked on a new journey in my ministry, and I learned a lot. I describe this step as "jumping into a cold pool". Have you ever been swimming, and you eased in the water, bit by bit? You start off with a toe, then eventually with the whole foot, etc., that way is safe, but it's more painful than just jumping in. I had been dipping my foot in the water, and then taking it out for a long time, so this time I was lead to go for it, and I jumped in. I had that immediate shock at the beginning, but as I got into it, and moved around in the water, it got better, and I felt more comfortable. Is there a cold pool in your life, something that you've been called to do, but you been sitting on the edge, too afraid to get in? Well I urge you to just jump in! You do have to be careful not to jump in with your eyes close, because you might hurt yourself, but pray for God's guidance, and once He gives you the green light, go for it. Take my word for it it's worth it! Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about respecting the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a “person” of the Trinity of God. When we think of God the Father, we think of the Creator of all things, the Almighty, All-powerful, Sovereign God. We know that He loves us, and we pray to, and fellowship with, Him on a daily basis. Then we think about God the Son, and we know the “Christmas story”, that God’s Spirit impregnated the Virgin Mary, and she gave birth to Jesus. He grew up like any other normal child, then as an Adult He traveled into far countries, taught the word of God, performed miraculous wonders, and died for the sin of all mankind. After His death, He was resurrected, and now sits in Heaven, at the right hand of God, making intercession for us. That’s two parts of the Trinity, but what’s the other? The third and final part is the Holy Spirit. He is just as important and relevant as the Father and the Son, yet we don’t respect as we do the others. Yes, there’s still One God, and One Savior Jesus Christ, but there’s also One Holy Spirit, and they all work together.
Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost, which observes the day God’s Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus’ Disciples, after His ascension into Heaven. In the Book of Acts, which is also know as “the Acts of the Holy Spirit”, Luke starts off with a conversation between Jesus and His disciples, after His resurrection, but before His ascension. Jesus said to them: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 1:4-5 NIV) Luke goes on to give an account of when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in the next chapter. It’s written: When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:1-4) During all of this commotion, people started to surround the house to see what was going on. When they saw them acting so strangely, they thought they were drunk, but Peter stood before the crowd and explained what was happening (Acts 2:14-41). He went through different accounts of this very moment being prophesied throughout history, and how important that day was. It’s written: Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38:39)
Now are you convinced that the Holy Spirit is as important as Jesus Himself? He’s been gifted to us; God loved us enough to give us a part of Him, to live inside of us, and help us face everyday life. The Holy Spirit seals our covenant with God. Jesus made it possible for us to live all eternity in Heaven, and the Holy Spirit makes it possible to live in abundance here on earth. He makes sure we’re following God’s will for our life, yet He also commands respect. He’s a part of God, so we’re required to love Him with all of our heart as well. He’s responsible for telling us, “this is the way walk in it”, and He’s expecting us to listen. He helps us know what to pray for, and how to pray (Romans 8:26). He convicts us of our sins, so that we could quickly repent, and our peace be restored. Through Him we can heal the sick, prophecy, and so much more. I heard one of Dr. Stanley’s teachings on the Holy Spirit, and He pointed out that we sometimes refer to the Holy Spirit as an “it” and not a “Him”, and I was immediately convicted, because I did that. Nonetheless, the Holy Spirit is very much a “person” of the Trinity of God.
We grieve the Holy Spirit when we don’t acknowledge His presence, consult Him on everyday things, nor thank Him for His assistance. If you know you haven’t been in touch with the Holy Spirit as much as you should, ask Him to walk with you today. He’s waiting on you to call on His Name, and He’ll be there. He right in your heart if you’ve confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior, He’s been there all along. If you haven’t confessed Jesus as Lord, then as soon as you take that very important step, you’ll received His Holy Spirit. It may not be as dramatic as the day of Pentecost, but you’ll notice a huge difference. I can testify, because the Holy Spirit brings you this message through me, each and every day, without Him it would not be possible. If you’re not sure of your salvation take the God quiz today! My favorite verses today are: After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of the inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today's scriptures are about boasting in our weaknesses, because by faith, God will make us strong. We shouldn’t base the love of God upon the circumstances in our life, because God has purpose and plans for us. Just as He’s created each of us with gifts and talents, He’s also given us weaknesses. These weaknesses are put into place to not only keep us close to God, but to also allow Him to show His power and strength through us. Have you noticed that most of the people God used to do great things in the stories found in the bible were the most unlikely people? Most of them where what the world considered weak, but they all had very strong faith. This reminds me of the story of David and Goliath. There was a time when King Saul reigned over Israel, but he disobeyed the word of God and the Kingdom was about to be stripped from him. At this time, God spoke to the Prophet Samuel, and he delivered the news to Saul. It’s written: Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you. He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind." (1 Sam. 15:28) Take note of how Samuel described this person. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if God described you in that way?
God then commanded Samuel to go to Bethlehem to visit a man named Jesse, because one of Jesse’s sons was going to be the new King. Samuel went, and when he met Jesse’s son Elaib he said "Surely the LORD's anointed stands here before the LORD." (1 Sam. 16:6) It goes on to say: But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (16:7) Samuel then met seven other sons of Jesse, but he knew that the Lord hadn’t chosen either of them. He asked if there was another, and the last of Jesse’s sons, the youngest, was David. David wasn’t even considered to be “interviewed by Samuel, but was left outside to tend to the sheep. It’s written: So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the LORD said, "Rise and anoint him; he is the one." (16:12). Why do you think, out of all of the sons, God chose the one lest likely to go; the one who was seemingly the weakest? I think it’s because the greater testimony could come out of using David, instead of the older, wiser, or stronger of the sons; and he had the most humbled heart. Samuel then anointed David with the Spirit of the Lord, and he went on to work with King Saul, as his right hand man, helping Saul in any way that he could. Mostly by praying with him.
The Philistines threatened to attack Israel, while they were still under Saul’s command. They had a giant named Goliath in their army, He was bigger than anyone they’d ever seen before; they referred to him as “a champion” in the New King James version of the bible. No one had come close to defeating Goliath, so he challenged Saul to a one on one fight with anyone in his army. He said, “if this man kills me, we will be your slaves” (17:9). The soldiers were very afraid, because they couldn’t think of anyone who could possibly defeat him.
These were the people of God; His chosen nation, so He wasn’t going to let them fall. At this moment of great weakness, whom do you think they turned too? There are times in our life when we’re going to face “giants”, but it’s all in God’s perfect plan. He allows these giants to help challenge our faith. Through these challenges, we’re strengthened.
The Philistines gave Saul some time to find a suitable warrior to fight Goliath, but the time was drawing near. Saul called to David, who wasn’t even a soldier in the Army, to come and pray with him. When David came to Saul, Goliath showed up. Everyone else ran away in fear, but David, the person lest likely to step up, was the only one who volunteered for the challenge. No matter how much people laughed at or mocked him, he stood firm on His faith in God. Even King Saul tried to talk him out of it, but he said: The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." (17:37) When Saul heard that, he gave him his blessings. I’m sure you know how this ends; David defeated this giant with a rock and a slingshot, how great and mighty is our God! David went on to be one of God’s greatest and most beloved Kings of Israel, as well as a great Psalmist. He was loved so much because He trusted God with all His heart, and never changed his mind. No matter how many battles he faced, he overcame them with faith, not by his on strength. He wasn’t perfect by any means, and fell short, but God knew his heart, just as He knows ours. Remember, stand on the love of God, and not on your own strength, because that’s the only way you’ll defeat the giants in your life. Most weaknesses are giants, because we cannot overcome them without God. Jesus is the way to this victory, so get to know Him today. Take the God Quiz right now! My favorite verse today is: I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. (Psalms 71:16)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today's scriptures are about having self-control. I’ve learned to adopt this concept: “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matt 7:12 NAS) Jesus gave us this command to help us be better individuals. We should see ourselves as a reflection of Christ, because we are created in His image. Jesus was a Man who walked uprightly, and was kind to everyone He encountered, not because He had to, but because He loved everyone, and wanted to show God through His actions. Nothing He did was in vain, and He took pride in knowing that just by being obedient, He was literally saving all mankind from destruction and eternal death. We should take on that same burden, knowing that our actions could easily bring life or death to people. If we’re claiming to be Christians, we’re taking on the responsibilities of Christ. We’re disciples, and not only are we required to love each other, but we’re required to share His love, and teach His commandments. However, how could we adequately teach something if we aren’t practicing it? It’s written: It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned. (Hebrews 6:4-8 NIV) Wow, Paul laid it all out for us right here, and in an “as a matter of fact” way. What Paul is saying is that it is impossible, once you’ve received the Holy Spirit, and have experienced the love of God, for you to live like a person who isn’t saved. If you do, it’s like crucifying Jesus all over again. Imagine how bad Jesus must feel when He’s in Heaven fighting for you, and you disgrace His Name? It is so important that we practice self-control in our Faith walk, because we are not only adding sins to our soul, but we’re pretty much worthless to the Kingdom of God. God has cleansed us with the blood of His only Son, to sow His love into us, and when we aren’t reaping, then we’re in jeopardy of falling by the wayside. It’s important to seek the Kingdom of God, commit to submitting to His will, and try our best to be obedient. When we’re doing those things, we’re sure to be wonderful representatives of Christ. We must “practice what we preach”, because we can do more harm to people’s Spiritual wellbeing by being dishonest, than anything else. We cannot live by the “do as I say, not as I do” mentally. We must lead by example, and there are so many lost sheep that are in need of leadership. They’re looking to those of us who confess Christ as Lord as their guide. How could I try to convince you to only eat McDonalds, because it’s the healthiest choice, but you only see me eat Burger King? We cannot convince these Spiritually lost and confused people that God is the only way to go, and condemn them for the lifestyles that they lead, if we lead those same lifestyles as well. We may not lead them as often, or as blatant as them, but we still lead them. This goes right back to the “treat people the way you want to be treated” moral value. You expect to be able to trust your teachers, or the people who are supposed to be showing you the love of God, so you must truly live like Christ, so that people will also trust you. Give yourself completely to God, and never look back. If you can do as Jesus commanded the “Rich Man”, and give up all that you have, [meaning the sinful and wicked ways you’ve become accustomed to], and follow Him, you’ll forever be in God’s good graces. As humans we’re comfortable with what we know, and when we’re asked to step out of our comfort zone, and trust something new and foreign, it’s sometimes hard to do. However, God is asking you to do your best to control your flesh, by changing your surroundings, praying without ceasing, and yearning for His Word. This allows your light to shine brighter with each day, and that light will help lead more and more people home to Christ. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, or aren’t sure of your Salvation, take Dr. Stanley’s God Quiz today! My favorite verses today are: Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. (I Corinthians 9:25-27 NIV)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Today’s scriptures are about being cleansed of our iniquities. Look around you, and then look at yourself in the mirror. Do you notice the iniquities of the world, let alone the iniquities inside of you? I could go on and on about the state of the world, and how the moral values have faded, and integrity is at its lowest point, but we don’t have much time for that. Sometimes it isn’t good to dwell on the negative, but we should acknowledge it, and try to find a solution. The world’s sins start on the inside of each individual. We must be held accountable for our own sins, because that’s the only thing that we can really control. I just thank God for Grace and mercy, because without His favor, where would we be? It’s hard to imagine, but things could always get worst. The irony of the state of sin, and the commotion it causes in our heart, is that it doesn’t have to be that way. From the day that Jesus died on the cross, our sins were exonerated. Jesus offered us living water, so that our sins could be easily washed away. Jesus said: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 6:37-38) Upon acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior, He’s instilled in our heart, and His living waters flows within us. His blood makes that possible, and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. We simply need to ask for forgiveness, and it’s granted. Notice He said, “if any thirsts, let him come to Me”, so it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, when, where, or why you’ve done it, you will be forgiven. All that’s needed is at that very moment, go to Him, by praying to God in His Name, confessing your sins, and asking for forgiveness. Now you may be thinking, “if it’s that easy, why should I stop sinning?” and I have the answer to that. Jesus’ death saves us from the eternal consequences of sin, not the moral consequences. Remember, you reap what you sow, more than you sow. Sin causes an overwhelming sense of discontent and anguish in your heart. Most sin will bring pleasure for the moment, but will ultimately lead to destruction. I started off today referencing the sins of the world, so I’m going to acknowledge some of the consequences. The earth is essentially deteriorating at the core, because of our blatant disregard and abuse of the earth and it’s natural resources. It seems like each day there’s a new form of cancer, and life threatening and incurable diseases like the AIDS virus are spreading like wildfires. The family value system is broken (for lack of a better word), because we don’t value the sanctity of marriage, and we neither respect our precious bodies nor ourselves. Need I say more? These are all the affects of sins, so yes, you can pray and ask for forgiveness and still get into Heaven, but your life is worth much more than that. While you’re here, you’re expected to strengthen your personal relationship with God, as well as the body of Christ. You’re meant to share your light, and the living water that’s in your heart, with unbelievers and the people who’s lacking. You’re meant to spread God’s love across ALL nations (Matt 28:19). How can you efficiently do that if you covered in sin? It’s written: Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “ I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea… “ There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.” (Isa. 48:17-18, 22) Commit that last verse to memory; it’s so good, I’ll write it again, “There is no peace for the wicked”! Did He say no salvation? No, He said no peace, and next to salvation, peace is the most precious gift we could ever receive. God will willingly cleanse you from all unrighteousness whenever you ask Him, because He loves you that much. However, He does require repentance in order to restore your peace. Jesus is the source of all love, peace, joy, and happiness, because through Him living water flows. If you haven’t confessed Him as Lord and Savior, then you should stop what you’re doing, and do it right now. It’s a quick, yet sincere prayer, asking God to forgive you of your sins, and inviting Jesus into your heart as Lord and Savior. If you haven’t said this prayer yet, and feel like something’s missing in your life, then that’s the only answer. Allow Him to restore your peace. My favorite verse today is: I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me. (Jeremiah 33:8)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

God is so good, and I’m finally getting to a point in my faith walk, where I’m learning to completely listen to Him. The thing that I was missing was to see Him in everything. Nothing is by chance, and there are plenty of times where we say, “Oh, it’s a coincidence that I was just thinking about this, and here it is”, some people call that Déjà vu, which is French for already seen. However, I know its God, because He speaks to us in so many different ways. We must slow down and intently listen for His voice, and watch for signs and visions.
Today, a friend and I were discussing Job chapter 7, and I wrote a rather large e-mail about how I interpreted Jobs frustration, and how it was necessary for him to go to God and voice his aggravation. After I’d proof read the e-mail, I thought, this looks like a sermon, or could be today’s devotional, but I sent it, and thought nothing more of it. Then, after I was done with my work, I attempted to access bible.com to get the scriptures for today, and the website was down. As well as, two other friends contacted me, and in both conversations we ended up discussing great loss, and how much it affects and weighs us down, and it brought me right back to my earlier discussion about Job 7. Do you think all of this is coincidence or Déjà vu? Well I doubt it very seriously, so I’m going to share my discussion with you, in an unfamiliar format, but hopefully it helps answer some questions you may have.

Read Job 7
I often feel like Job felt in this chapter of scripture; he was truly fed up! From the way I read it, Job got to a "wait a minute!" point in his life. I'm sure He was thinking, "I've done nothing but try my best to do right, so why am I being punished like this?"... I think we all have or will get to points like these in our Faith walk. God allows us to be tested and tried for some of the same reasons He tested Job, and just like Job, it's okay to question Him. It's okay to ask God, "What's going on?" because that's a sign of our love for Him. We should always come to Him seeking wisdom, and wanting to learn life's lessons.
I was touched most by verses 17-19: "What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention, that you examine him every morning and test him every moment? Will you never look away from me, or let me alone even for an instant?" I can remember times when I felt exactly like this, but we need God's attention, because even His affliction is meant to work together for our good. So we should be grateful that he examines us every morning, and test us every moment, but it's the times where it feels like He isn't there that we should worry. It's all refinement, and allows us to build up our trust in Him, helps us rely on Him to sustain us, and show us a new way to righteousness. Remember, we just learned yesterday, that Jesus said we should take up our cross “daily”, and follow Him.
I found a few of my answer in the following chapters: “Behold, this is the joy of His way, And out of the earth others will grow. Behold, God will not cast away the blameless, Nor will He uphold the evildoers. He will yet fill your mouth with laughing, and your lips with rejoicing. Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing.” (Job 8:19-22) Trouble don't last always, and when you feel like you're down and can't get back up, know that God can and will use your situation to help others grow. Rejoice through your sorrow, because eventually He'll fill your mouth with laughing. Eventually you'll see the light, but as always, when going through trials you never foresee the end, until God gives reveals the small light at the end of the tunnel.
In my opinion, Job couldn't hold it anymore, and he couldn't take the pain, nor rejoice in it any longer. He needed answers, so instead of him turning his back on God, and surrendering to the enemy's attacks, he confronted God about it. I admire him for that, and ultimately learned that when I'm stressed out, instead of doing evil or succumbing to evil, it's best to just make my supplications known to God. He'd rather us do that, than the alternative. The answers aren’t found in drugs, alcohol, sex, empty relationships, food, violence, or any of the like.
If you don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior, that’s the only place to start. See, unlike Job, we have the saving grace of Jesus Christ to see us through. With Jesus comes God’s Holy Spirit, so we can stay connected with Him at all times. I urge you to start building a bond with God through Christ, and allow Him to fill you with so much joy, that when you are being tested you’ll have the strength to get you through, still praising God! Pray and ask Jesus to be Lord of your life today!

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY MONDAY!

A highlight of the weekend was the play I saw entitled "The Child Support Man" on Saturday, at the Soul Factory in Forestville, MD. This church is beyond contemporary, but they are real on every level. I like the way they relate to the lost sheep, by allowing them to understand that being lost is only okay, if you're trying to find your way home. There's no condemnation at this church, but simply an open arms policy. I love that concept, and I truly enjoyed the play, because it touched on so many serious issues about relationships, broken homes, the Family Judicial system, and the affects broken homes have on children. I highly recommend you see it, I know it’ll be playing again this coming weekend, and the tickets are reasonably priced (check out their website http://www.thesoulfactory.com/). Enjoy the remainder of your day, and be blessed family!

Today's scriptures are about walking in the ways of God. Everyone who looks at you sees God. Did you know that you are a representative of Him; His love, His will, His mercy, His grace, His artistic abilities, and so much more! You must wear that crown with honor, respect, and integrity, because the salvation of your fellow man depends on it. There is always someone watching you, because you’re peculiar people. You ever notice a person who’s in love, especially new love? They have this glow about them, and they’re smiling from the inside out. Just imagine how you radiate when you’re in love with God. There’s this certain glow that you get, and people notice. When you build a strong relationship with God by spending time with Him, and learning His ways, He begins to fill you with His spirit of joy, and it gives you this sparkle even a lost man can’t ignore. People should feel Him when they’re in your presence, hear Him when you speak, and see Him when they look into your eyes [which are said to be the windows to your soul]. Knowing this, you must be careful how you carry yourself, because you can be an asset or a hindrance to the Kingdom. There’s always a lost sheep trying to find its way home, and we have the power to either guide them home, or lead them astray. The only thing worse than being ignorant, is being misinformed.
When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we’re making a vow to God. We’re ultimately vowing to surrender to Him, and allow Him to be Lord of our life. When we follow through with that vow, He begins to work on us from the inside, by immediately filling us with the His Holy Spirit. However, the Holy Spirit is a “Gentleman”, and will allow us to ultimately make our own choices, so in all essence we must surrender. God loves us, and He simply asks that we treat people the way we want to be treated, respect Him and ourselves, and ultimately love Him and everyone around us. So when you’re walking down the street, shopping in the mall, having a conversation, or anything else, people should know that you’re a child of God, by the way you interact. Just as when Jesus walked through the land, the people knew that there was something different about Him, although some didn’t know exactly what, but they knew He was special. They could tell, just by the way He interacted and spoke, exactly who He was, “the Son of the Most High God”. Jesus said: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24). Please don’t use God’s grace, including His generous gift of forgiveness, as justification to conform to the world. I know firsthand how easy that could be. If you love God, and are interested in knowing how to take the first steps to being conformed into Righteousness, take the God quiz today. My favorite verse today is: The God of peace, ... make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 13:20-21)

I’m going to leave you with this Psalm of David” (NIV):

Psalm 15

1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?
2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,
4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,
5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things
will never be shaken.

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today's scriptures are about praying openly, honestly, and by faith. We were created to fellowship and worship the Lord. The word worship is found in almost 200 verses in the New King James version of the Bible, but what does the word mean? It's defined by Merriam-Webster as: reverence offered a divine being or supernatural power... Now this leads us to finding out what the word "reverence" means; it's defined: honor or respect felt or shown. With this newfound knowledge, isn't it safe to say that prayer is a part of worshipping God? Of course it is, because it's a sign of respect when we acknowledge Him in all things. I was listening to Dr. Stanley’s radio show, entitled "In Jesus' Name" (it can be found in the audio archives on his website), and he said one thing that went off in my head like a light bulb. He asked a simple question, similar to this: "Don't you know that you're praying to the all powerful, all knowing, wonderful Ruler of the Universe?” When he said that, it was like I hit the jackpot in Las Vegas, I heard "ding, ding, ding, ding, ding". It was such an epiphany to me because I never thought of it like that. Don't get me wrong, I know God, and I love Him with all of my heart and soul, but when I'm praying, it's like I'm speaking to my father, or a best friend who loves and cares for me unconditionally. It's almost like if you were best friends with President Obama, and you talk to him everyday, you're not looking at it as if he's "the leader of the free world", but you see him just as your best friend Barack. That's how comfortable I've gotten in my relationship with God, but sometimes I have to step back and remind myself that God is the creator of everything, yet He loves me so much that all the hairs on my head are numbered. Through Jesus Christ I can do all things, because He taught us to make our supplications known to God, with thanksgiving, faith, and In His Name, and it's already done. When we pray, we must pray with a purpose, and with full assurance that our prayers will be heard, and answered. Prayer is a form of worship, so we must do it with passion, and as often as we feel the need, because He's always longing to hear from us. We learn today, from the first verse of scripture, "Pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." (1 Tim 2:8), so we shouldn't hesitate to go to God for anything, at anytime, or anywhere. Remember, Jesus said: “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven." (Matt 10:32-3) If you're ever feeling an uneasiness in your spirit, take a few minutes and pray to God for clarity, right then and there, and trust Him for an the answer. If you're experiencing pain and heartache, go to Him in pray, right where you're standing. If a friend asks you to pray with them, or for them, take the initiative and pray wherever you are. When something good happens too you, be adamant about thanking God immediately, no matter who's listening. Yet and still, always take out your personal time for worship as well, often and consistently. Worship in your car, at church, or in the comfort of your own home. I remember being in Hawaii, and the Executive Chef, whom I never had a "real" conversation with, commented on my "level of Faith", and I was surprised because I was unconsciously worshipping God at work, and everyone around me took notice. There are times when the devil would put fear and doubt in my mind, but my relationship with the Holy Spirit has become much better than my relationship with the enemy. Just on a side note, if you don't have a relationship with God, then you do have a relationship with the enemy, because he's actively using you for his own purpose. Jesus said: He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters. (Luke 11:23) Prayer is the number one means of communication with God, and the one and only way that He'll be able to grant all of our wants and needs. Sure He knows these things already, but He requires fellowship and worship, which also falls under the ultimate commandment "love the Lord your God with all your heart". Keep in mind the components of prayer are to first acknowledge God (Father God...), then thank Him, make your supplications known, confess your sins and ask for forgiveness, and then end by including Jesus (In the Name of Jesus, Amen). You can do this in any order you’d like, and can tell Him whatever's on your heart, ask for whatever you need, and He'll be there listening, with an open heart, no matter what. Just make sure you always pray in Jesus’ name, because that stamp, sign, seal, and delivers your prayers. If you haven't accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior then that's the first and most important prayer. Follow the format, and ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior of your life; if you need help please let me know, because I love you and want to see you in Heaven. My favorite verse today is: Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Today's scriptures are about loving one another. Love is one of my favorite subjects; I just love love! God is the epitome of Love. Everything He is and does is based upon His love for us. We're made in His likeness so we have the ability to love just as He loves. He's working in us to create righteousness and perfection, in which love is a catalyst. Jesus said: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." (John 13:34), but there are many Christians who don't know how to do just that. Now how do you think that makes God feel? The fact is if you can't learn to love other people, how could you really know how to love God? Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 13, about the greatest gifts we've received from God, but also how everyone who professes to be a Child of God doesn't know how to truly Love, and the dangers of that. He ends this chapter with this: And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor. 13:13) Some of the reasons people have trouble with love is because of past circumstances, and being unforgiving. There are some people who want to openly love others, but they're afraid, because they’ve been hurt. This reminds me of the movie "Precious", where this young lady faced every horrible scenario of abuse that you could come up with, and this abuse came from her parents, the people who were supposed to love her unconditionally. There's a scene in the movie where her teacher told her that she loved her, and she said something like, "I don't want you to love me, because love beat me and raped me, love is a horrible thing". This was the part of the movie where I broke down in tears, because I know and have experienced real love, and I couldn’t imagine ever feeling that way. There are numerous people that don't think that they deserve real love, because they they’ve never really received it from anyone. What they don’t know is that unconditional love comes from God, and when you trust Him with your whole heart, He’ll show you. I think that's why God commanded us to love our neighbor, because some people can only gauge love by the amount of love they receive from others. When we love the people we come in contact with, we’re showing them the love of God. After all, love conquers all, and there's nothing that could tear it down. The people who said they loved you but really didn’t, were being used by the enemy, to attempt to scar you, and build fear in your heart. The only other thing that blocks our ability to love unconditionally is an unforgiving heart. I learned a long time ago, that forgiveness is for you. When you hold on to past hurts and pains, they begin to fester in your heart, and will ultimately make you bitter. If you're not willing to forgive people for their trespasses against you, how do you expect to be forgiven by God? You have to let that go, because when bitterness and resentment get's into your soul, it could block your ability to love with an open heart, then you’re disobeying God's commandment. I know you're wondering, especially if you've been hurt over and over in your life, how to let go and love again. I've been in that place before, and a part of me still is, but the one thing I hold on to is hope. From the moment I wake up in the morning I can feel God's presence and His love. Its almost like He fills me with love, and I can't help but praise Him. Because of that, I could look into the eyes of a known enemy, or someone who intends to do wrong by me, and still see the love in their heart. How did I get to this point? I just let go and let God. I prayed and asked Him to help me learn how to forgive quickly and love freely, and He answered. Whenever I'm struggling with anger, hurt or resentment, I pray to God and ask Him to see me through. Paul wrote: ...rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (Romans 5:2-5) There you have it right there! Open your heart to God, allow Him to pour His love into you, and then He'll begin that work within you. Remember, He didn't give us these commandments to set us up for failure, but He's equipped us with every tool we'll need to obey them. All we have to do is reach out, and open up. I promise, if you forgive and ask for forgiveness, and let go of the past, you'll be filled with so much love that it'll overwhelm you. Love is a gift, but so are some trials, because they help mold you into the person God wants you to be. I'll leave you with this last question: Which takes more energy, to love, or to hate? Jesus loves you unconditionally, so take on His energy and love freely, and leave the consequences up to God. He's given you the Holy Spirit to help you decided who, what, when, where, and how to love. First trust Jesus to love you, and open your heart to Him. Allow Him to be Lord of your life today. If you need a prayer partner, I'll be happy to pray with you. My favorite verse today is: Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. (1 John 4:7)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY TUESDAY!

Today's scriptures are about consciously living in righteousness. We learned yesterday about the prevalence of evil in the world, and the works of the enemy, which is why we must consciously live in Christ. Death and Jesus’ return are both certain, but we can't be sure which will come first, so we much be aware of our righteousness, at all times. Righteousness is a free gift, offered by God, through Jesus Christ. It's written: [Christ]...who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Peter 2:24-25) When you think of being righteous, what comes to mind? One of the things we learn from the Word is that Jesus was, and will forever be the only "perfect" man. He did everything according to the Word of God, because He was God in the flesh. We're not expected to be Jesus, but we are expected to try our best to imitate Him. Most importantly, we're not expected to take on this tough job alone. Quite frankly, it's much easier to sin, then it is to do right, and Jesus admits to that Himself. He said: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matt. 7:13-14) Jesus was tempted by the devil, just as we are on a daily basis, so He knows how hard it is to enter into the “narrow gate”, yet God still expects us to be righteous, because Jesus didn't leaves us alone. Not only is He our intercessor, but we also have the His Holy Spirit to help us through everyday life. I don't think we use our Holy Spirit as much as we should. He's a very important a part of the Trinity of God, and gives us the power to overcome temptation, avoid evil or harmful situations, heal ourselves and others through Christ, as well as effectively communicate with God. He's the Advocate of righteousness, and will make sure that we're achieving it, when we consult Him in everything we do. In watching Reality TV, I’ve noticed that the new trend for the celebrities is hiring a "Life Coach". This is a person who helps you live your life to your fullest potential. They come to your home and help you change your bad eating, sleeping, and overall living habits. They also come to your job and/or business and help you work efficiently. They're basically hired by people, who may be struggling to move forward in their life, to help give them a push. I think that's a wonderful concept, to those who could afford to do something like that, but that's nothing new. We've had a Spiritual life coach inside of us all along. That's all the Holy Spirit is, and when we ask Him for help, He's right there to give us the answers. All we have to do is consult Him, and He'll show us the way. The only way to live righteously is to live on purpose. Live like a child of God, because if you've accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, that's who you are. You are the son or daughter of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, so you must live like royalty, because you’ve received you inheritance through Christ. He's blessed you with the gifts to be able to be righteous, and that's what He expects from you. We don't expect to see the daughter of the King of England, homeless on the streets, because she is royalty, and her parents have afforded her the assets to live like royalty, all the days of her life. Well our Father, the King of Kings, has done the same thing for us. We never have to want for anything, as long as we're following His will. He's laid out certain rules that we must follow, and they aren't as hard as we once thought, because we can always ask Him for help. We must put on the Fruits of the Spirit each day, starting as soon as we get out of bed. We must make a conscious effort to avoid sin, so if you know your weakness is alcohol, stay out of the bar. If you know you gossip too much, surround yourself with people who don't. It's all about making conscious life choices, and sticking to them, in hopes of making your Heavenly Father proud. That's all righteousness is. Do it for Him, because He's already done so much for you. If you live a life with thanksgiving and meekness in your heart, righteousness is sure to follow. The Key to starting on this journey is to hire the one true "Life Coach", who is Jesus Christ. It won't cost you one dime, all you need is Faith, and He'll do the rest. If you aren't sure of your Salvation, try taking Dr. Stanley's God Quiz today. My favorite verses today are: Little children, abide in him that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. (1John 2:28-29)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY MONDAY!

Today's scriptures are about overcoming the evil powers of the world. There's victory through the blood of the Lamb! Hallelujah! Some of you may be asking yourself, "victory over what?", and that's okay. I’ll tell you just as it’s written, in Christ we have overcome the world! That's a reason to shout, rejoice, and give Him praises! Nevertheless, as long as we're in the flesh, we're going to go through this Spiritual warfare. The enemy is working overtime, to persuade us to sin against God, and live wicked and evil lives. If we're not aware of the power we hold, through the blood of Christ, we'll spend a long miserable life fighting against good and evil. The enemy has turned things that were meant for good into evil, and has a way of twisting everything, so believers, especially the young in their Faith, are lead astray. He works even harder on more mature Christians, so never get to a point where you think you have it figured out, because the enemy is always one step ahead. That's why it's important to keep Jesus close at all times, by constantly praying, and studying His Word, because it holds all of the answers to a peaceful life. In my opinion, peace is the most valuable blessing we could have, but sin is the exact opposite of peace. Right before Jesus' death, He told His disciples: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27) You notice how He said "not as the world gives"? There are so many things the enemy offers that will seemingly give you peace, however his type of peace is always temporary, and usually include very negative side effects. I believe one of the most effective weapons the enemy uses, to keep us in bondage, is false peace. He gives us these great mirages of peace, but once we get all wrapped into this facade, we end up being hurt, and let down. These things come in the forms of drugs, alcohol, sex, infatuation, relationships, gluttony, etc. How many times have you been depressed or stressed and said, "I need a drink!", or "I want to go out and party!"? At the time, you're having a ball, dancing, talking, and feeling free! You become a person you didn't know you could be. It seems harmless, but that's how the enemy works. There are always repercussions like sickness, disease, drunk driving, and so many other things, which all could very well end up in death. Some people turn to infatuation, fornication, or adultery to mask their pain, in hopes of finding peace. However, we know all of the repercussions that come with those. Let's not forget the tool that the enemy uses the most, to pit people against each other, and that's the "Almighty Dollar", money, wealth, and prestige, makes people do strange things. There are people who will kill their own mother for it, but the bible does say “the love of money is the root of all evil”. Money gives us a false sense of hope and peace, but it could never fulfill us like the love of Jesus Christ. The enemy is strong, but Jesus is stronger and mightier than anything we could face on this earth. Just seek His strength, and He'll allow us to overcome all that keeps us in bondage. There's freedom in the Blood, but we have to seek out that freedom, and walk with Him all the days of our life. He'll fill us with so much peace, joy, and happiness that we won't ever want to leave His side. I could attest to the roadblocks we'll face when we're walking with God. As we grow, the attacks by the enemy become more frequent and sever, however, our strength and Faith gets even stronger, because God keeps showing up, and showing out. The one thing that we have to realize is that we're not strong enough to defeat the devil alone. You can see that just by looking around you. The enemy uses fear, addiction, fornication, greed, money, and anything else that could be used to tear you down, but you serve the Most High God! Paul taught us: Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-40) Know that Jesus died to give you freedom from all of this mess. When people see you, they should see this light about you, no matter what you're going through. This is made possible by the Christ in you. It’s written: Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) I’m urging you please don't make it easy for him, because he preys on your weaknesses. The enemy is always lurking in dark places, however when you carry Jesus’ light within you, He’ll always brighten the dark spots of life. All you have to do is trust Him. If you don't know Him as Lord and Savior, then the devil has free reign over your life, and that can't be peaceful for you. No matter how much you try and seek out it, you'll never find it, because it could only be found in Christ Jesus. So say that prayer today, and if you need me to pray with you, please let me know, I'd be happy too. My favorite verse today is: We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY FRIDAY!

It's Mother's day weekend, a time to give thanks to all mothers. Although I'm not officially a mother, I know the plight of moms everywhere. Motherhood is a privilege, given by God, to protect, nurture, guide, and give total care to His children. That deserves to be celebrated! Cherish your mom, or the person who played that role in your life, and thank them, and thank God for them. Some of us are fortunate enough to have several mother figures, but most of us only get one, so cherish her, and tell her you love her this weekend. I'd like to wish each mother (or mother figure), a happy Mother's Day! Enjoy your weekend, and be blessed family.

Today's scriptures are about trusting in the Lord in times of calamity. The world has experienced some vast catastrophes, and I’ve witnessed a few in my adult life. We've had the 9-11 terrorist attack, gulf wars, middle eastern wars, Hurricane Katrina, Tsunamis, devastating earth quakes in Haiti, South America, China, just to name a few, and it seems like it just keeps getting worst. However, when men and women of God come forth, to assure other believers that God allowed these things, because of punishment of sin, there's this great uproar. Let's make sure that we're clear on this, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever more, so everything that's happening now, is no different from the numerous stories found in the Old Testament of the bible. There were great prophets including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and Samuel, just to name a few, who gave active accounts of great wars and calamity due to disobedience and spiritual warfare. In my opinion, the entire world, especially our culture, is in a terrible spiritual state. The religions are split greater than ever before, and there are hundreds of false prophets. People are defiling themselves and children. The lands are polluted, and resources are vastly depleting. We've turned into a technology driven world, and things are moving so fast, that we forget to slow down and spend time with God. The enemy is running rampant, which shows in everything around us. In American culture, you turn on the television and see people, who were once role models, blatantly defiling themselves, through explicit songs, movies, and television programs. Marriages are falling apart at the seams, and drugs, alcohol, adultery and fornication is not only glorified, but also promoted. Looking at all of these things, why do you think the earth is deteriorating right under our feet? Jesus said: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:5-8) God is a God of righteousness, love, peace, and salvation; however, He's still a God to fear, if we continuously disobey His commandments. Eventually, He'll say enough is enough. All of these "natural disasters" have reasons behind them, but our main concern is not to try and figure out why, and try to avoid the next one, but it's time to get our relationship right with Christ. We cannot walk this earth, day by day, in fear, because that's not what God intended for us. If you know that you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and believe with all your heart that you are saved, then you have nothing else to worry about. The world could be crumbling around you, and all you have to do is pray for deliverance, and God will see you through (Psalms 91 is a great resource to help strengthen you in times of fear). I'm going to leave you with the warning from Jesus, it's written: "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!' " (Mark 13:32-37 NIV) Wow, Jesus ended with such a powerful word, "watch!” I love that. What will be will be, and you're in charge of your own destiny. God has destroyed this entire earth before, but He vowed not to do it again. However, this time, it's us who are destroying it, little by little, piece by piece. God gave us warning signs, so that we could be free of worry or sin, and endure the brunt of the storms. Most importantly, so that we could inherit our "promised land", when it's all over. Don't stop living your life because of fear, but start living your life for Christ. Just as we heard from the story of Jonah the other day, sometimes it only takes one person to warn others about the destruction ahead, so that they could be redeemed. Don't forget, be ready, or you will be destroyed with all of the others. I don't say that as a threat, but as warning to those of you who are "teetering" with your faith, and are "still deciding" what you want to believe. Take a look around you, and notice, that you don't have as much time as you think you do. Take a few moments and take the God Quiz today. My favorite verse today is: He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting the Lord. (Psalms 112:7)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Today's scriptures are about God's mercy, which brings righteousness and truth. Have you ever heard the saying "the truth will set you free"? What do you think that means? It's always been said that one lie leads to another, and the next lie has to be bigger, to cover the last lie, and it always spirals out of control. When you're trapped in a lie, it becomes a great burden, so it's just easier to tell the truth, and deal with the consequences. That's the same principle when it comes to sin. One sin leads to the next, and it becomes a trap that you cannot get out of, and then a burden that weighs heavy on your heart, especially in the life of the believer. Eventually you'll be a slave to the flesh, and will do whatever it takes to make it happy, to escape the eternal pain it brings. I know this feeling first hand, because I've been there. I used to live a life of an unsaved person, because I was in pain. I surrounded myself with sinners, and was heavily influenced by the "world", yet on the inside I never wanted to live that type of life. My soul was in so much turmoil, that I got caught up in that web of trying to break the cycle of using one sin to cover up the next. I was saved at a very young age, and baptized on my 15th birthday, so I had the Holy Spirit in my heart. He always made His presence known, but I chose to ignore Him. It wasn't until I found out the truth about God that I began to allow Him to turn my life around. When I realized how gracious and merciful my God is, I wanted nothing more than to please Him, and do right by Him. There's always redemption in Christ, and it doesn't matter how long you've been a sinner, or what type of sin you've committed, there's forgiveness, due to His mercy, and ability to create righteousness within you. The blood of Jesus cleanses you from all unrighteousness, so count it all joy! All God needs from you is your confession, which is the whole truth of your sin, and then ask for forgiveness. Once you do that, and repent, He'll know that you're ready to move forward, and will often times deliver you from the burden of that sin, so you won’t have to battle with it. He knows your heart, and knows full well if you're truthful about that repentance, and because of His mercy He'll always forgive and forget. God is a God of peace and love, and will do whatever it takes to keep you there. He knows that we'll be much better stewards when we have that peace in our heart, so He'll instill it within us, but it's ultimately up to us to choose Him. If there's one thing I hope will come out of me sharing my testimony with you, is that it will help you avoid half of the heartache and pain I endured. Had I only known how much God loves me, I could've made different and better choices, and maybe I would've come out of my wilderness a little sooner. However, I know God used all of my trials as stepping-stones to victory. Once I knew and accepted the truth, it did indeed set me free. That's the wonderful thing about Jesus, and studying His life and His teachings, because He explains things so richly, yet keeps it simple to understand. He gives you this, "it is what it is", type of truth. He's not only told us how to live by truth and righteousness, but He showed us, in everything He did. So even if you don’t understand some of His parables, pay attention to His demeanor and conduct. Nothing was more important to Him than His relationship with the Father, and His love for the people. That was His whole life, and He truly did something that we could never do, nor are expected to. His love is our perfection. He gives us one key piece right here: "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (Mark 10:15) Little children are innocent and sweet, and are constantly learning, and seeking answers to life, while still relying on their parents or caregivers to provide their every need. They experience honest humility in just being them, and without some type of guidance, they'd be lost. Does that sound familiar? The truth is that God gave us His Son Jesus to teach us how to go back to being "Little Children" in Spirit, by truly depending on Him. He opened Himself up to us, by His grace, and offers freedom through Christ. We now have the freedom to go to Him whenever, and for whatever, in the Name of Jesus. We've been let off of the hook, and no longer have to try to be righteous or perfect all by ourselves, because it will never happen. We're offered strength, peace, and happiness in and through all things, and will never have to worry about bearing the weight of the world again. Allow His truth to set you free today. Jesus is waiting, ready and willing, to give you freedom, what are you waiting for? Say that prayer today! My favorite verse today is: God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Today’s scriptures are about conquering worry with faith. I don’t know one person who doesn’t worry about something, at one time or another; it’s a natural thing to do in the flesh. At the same time, worry shows a lack of faith in God. The only thing that overcomes worry is trust, and that is true when it comes to everything. In a relationship, if you don’t trust your spouse, you’re going to worry about them being faithful. That lack of trust comes from a past failure, mistake, or a breakdown in communication. The same goes for your relationship with your children, because you know they’re growing, and you can’t always trust them to do things that are above their maturity level, so you end up worrying about them. It will come a time where you’ll have to trust them, so simply pray, let go, and trust God to care for them. No relationship will work without trust, and that’s especially true in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. God asks us to stay close to Him, by praying without ceasing, reading His Word, and meditating on it. If we’re doing these things, we have nothing to worry about, because we’re building a strong relationship with Him. His Holy Spirit works within us to teach us the things we should know, in order to compete God’s will. He also helps us pray, it’s written: Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27) Doesn’t this all sound so simple? Especially since we hear it every day when we read our devotionals, or every Sunday when we go to church. Those who hunger for God will be blessed beyond imagination. There’s no need to want for anything, because God promised to grant our every need, as well as some wants and desire. Yet stress is the leading cause of sickness, disease, and even death. My mom and grandmother had this saying, “you’re gonna worry me to death”, and in all actuality, that is such a true statement. I can truly testify to that, because stress, depression, and sickness, all had a strong hold on me, just a few years ago. It wasn’t until I truly surrendered my life to God, that He delivered me from that. There’s a section in the Sermon on the Mount, which Jesus preached about worry. I was drawn to this section, because worry ruled my life. I used to worry from the time I woke up in the morning, until the time I laid down at night. I couldn’t sleep, because as soon as I closed my eyes, thoughts started swirling around in my head. I was thinking, “How am I going to do this?”, “who’s going to take care of that?”, “what if I do this?”, “where is this going to take me?”, “why did I do that?”, and this went on and on, until my peace was completely gone. All I could do was open my bible and read, and most nights prayed until I fell asleep, and the Holy Spirit always led me right back here, so I’m going to leave you with this:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature (or one hour to his life)?
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble
. (Matthew 6:24-32)

Now, if God makes the flowers beautiful, and they’re thrown out tomorrow, how much more will He do for you? If He makes sure that the birds eat, and have homes, what more will He provide for you? I wasn’t going to share this entire passage, but I know that someone needed to read it from the Word of God. This passage changed my life, and I hope it does the same for you. Have faith in God, simply because He loves you, and will never let you fall. Thank Him every day, because even when it seems like He isn’t there, He working on your behalf. Ask Him for everything that you want, need or desire, and if you have faith, it’s yours, period. He won’t ever give you anything that will cause you more worry, anger or pain, but He will allow certain things, in order to reach out to you. Don’t take my word for it; you have it from the mouth of Jesus Christ himself. He’s the key to strengthening your faith, because through Him, all blessings flow. Start praying right now, and ask God for the answers through Christ, cast your cares upon Him, and leave them there. Believe me as long as you’re faithful in seeking Him, He’s faithful in answering. Don’t forget about the God quiz, it may shed some light for you. My favorite verses today are: O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. (Psalms 34:9-10)

Daily Devotional Day & Night

Today's scriptures are about God's ever present help in our time of need. There isn't anything too large for God, and He does whatever it takes to protect those who love Him. He created us to fellowship with Him, so He'll always make sure we have everything we need to do so. To live in a world full of sin, corruption, and evil, we must remain strong in God's love. His promises can be found in His Word, which helps us properly communicate with Him. Speaking of communication, I just came across the story of Jonah, and I think it perfectly describes today’s scriptures. God loved the people of Nineveh very much, but they rebelled against Him. He commanded Jonah to go there and tell them to repent of their sins, or He would destroy them and their land. Presently, God also gives us warnings, before we get ourselves in some type of mess, so always take heed of everyone He puts in your life, and listen for His guidance. Jonah wasn't so smart, because He thought he could escape God's presence. I believe Jonah didn't think he was good enough to be called by God, nor did he think the people of Nineveh were worthy of salvation, so he fled. He boarded a ship going the opposite way, thinking he’d get away. How many times have you done that? I’ve tried to flee from God, when I thought that the things He was asking me to do didn’t fit into “my” plans. I started avoiding bible study and prayer time, and when I would hear Him speak to me I’d try to drown Him out with music or television, but none of that work, because He eventually got my attention. He got Jonah’s attention by sending a terrible storm, which almost destroyed him, the boat, and several other people. While the boat was sinking, Jonah was in the bottom, sound asleep. The crew members ultimately found out that Jonah was the cause of this storm. At this moment, you can tell that Jonah was a true man of God, because he told the crew members to throw him overboard, in order to save their lives. However, part of him dying there, meant he wouldn't have to face the people of Nineveh as well. Here's the wonderful part of the story, it's written: And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights. (Jonah 1:17) Although Jonah blatantly defied God, he was never utterly cast down and destroyed. God saved him, but put him in a place where He could no longer run and hide. All Jonah could do is pray for three full days. Have you ever been at a point like that in your life, where you were in so much pain, fear, or utter confusion that all you could do was pray? I can remember numerous times where I've been in the "belly of the fish", but in those moments I was most likely reaping what I sowed. In chapter two Jonah cries out to the Lord with praise, and he said: "I called out of my distress to the LORD, and He answered me, I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; you heard my voice." (vs 2) Throughout this prayer, Jonah acknowledge his mistakes, and thanked God for saving him, because he knew that had he just listened to God in the first place, none of this would’ve happened. Can you relate to Jonah on that? I can recall the days, where I said, "Had I just listened..." When God let Jonah out of the belly of that fish, Jonah ran to Nineveh and did exactly what God commanded, and they accepted him, and repented. It's written: When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it. (Jonah 3:10) This made Jonah very angry, it's written: He prayed to the LORD and said, "Please LORD, was not this what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore in order to forestall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity." (Jonah 4:2) He then asked God to take his life, because he was that upset. Jonah couldn’t understand why God saved these evil and vile people, while his own people suffered. But God said to him, "it is right for you to be angry" (vs. 4). God understands all that we go through, and empathizes with us. Jonah was like most of us, stubborn, hotheaded, and determined to do his own thing. However, only the almighty Lord knows what's best for us. He'll only allow us to suffer so much, before He steps in and intervene, hoping that we'll get the lesson. One thing that we can learn from Jonah is that God will never leave us, and will do what it takes to keep us in line with His will, even if it means being in the belly of the fish. After all of this, God had to give Jonah yet another lesson, to teach Him how importation compassion is. The book of Jonah is only four small chapters, so take a moment and read it, and see what you get out of it. I learned that no matter how bad things may seem, God will always give us the strength to endure, even when we bring the pain on ourselves. It's easier to seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and follow His will, then to try and hide from Him. He loves us too much to ever let us go. He proved that by giving His Son Jesus as our Savior, and I'm grateful! Get to know Jesus Christ today, and allow Him to be Savior of your life. My favorite verse today is: In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. (Psalm 138:3)
